Could Walt Disney World Resort Have To Close Again?

Things are not looking good in Florida right now. The state is in the midst of its largest coronavirus surge yet, now surpassing New York, Florida has the second highest number of COVID-19 cases in the United States. Recently Hong Kong Disneyland became the first of the Disney Parks forced to shut the gates once again due to the virus. This has left many Disney fans who haven't canceled their trips to wonder, could Walt Disney Resort have to close yet again?

Orange County's Public Health and Safety Officials are doing their best to take a targeted approach to combat businesses that are not enforcing the mandated guidelines through random testing. Walt Disney World will be subject to this as much as any other county business.

"What we're trying to do here is take a look at the existing data within Orange County to make the best decisions going forward," said County Mayor Jerry Demings in a July 13 interview on MSNBC. "We are excited for the reopening, but it's also concerning to me at the same time."

If it comes down to it the Orange County Government would be willing to ask Disney World to reevaluate if it should remain open as the number of statewide cases rise. Mayor Demings also noted that if the number of cases were to exceed hospital capacities or if Disney World is linked to an outbreak then that would not hesitate to order a shut down.

At the time of this writing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging all Americans to stay home and avoid non-essential travel. In addition Many states across the nation have recently put travel restrictions on people traveling from Florida (and other COVID-19 hot spots) that require them to self-quarantine for two weeks after their return. While the gates of Disney Parks are open to visitors with reservations, it continues to be under limited capacity, limited activities, and strict safety guidelines.

Health and Safety Precautions Are A MustHealth and Safety Precautions Are A Must

If I've learned anything from the past several months of living during a pandemic it has to be that one should ever say never. With the crisis in Florida currently raging out of control and government officials having already said that they will be willing to call for another shut down I think the answer to the question is, yes. It is possible that we could see re-closures at Florida's Disney Parks and Resorts due to the ongoing health emergency.

My crystal ball is currently on the fritz though so just like everyone else I'll just have to wait and see.
