Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon turned 25 on June 1, and the water park celebrated the milestone with an all-day party.

Typhoon Lagoon opened to the public on June 1, 1989 and boasted the largest wave pool in North America at the time, in addition to storm-themed water slides and a kids' area.

The water park is home to Walt Disney World's first water coaster, Crush 'N' Gusher, which opened in 2005.

The 25th anniversary party featured a DJ on the Clock Tower, special birthday cupcakes, and a couple new specialty beverages that were only available during the party.

But to keep the celebrating going all summer, the water park also introduced two new waffle sandwiches: a savory fried chicken sandwich and a sweet chocolate chip waffle with fruit and cinnamon sugar. Both sandwiches are available through August 1.

In addition to the water slides, guests at Typhoon Lagoon can also snorkel in Shark Reef, a 362,000 gallon salt water tank where sharks, stingrays, and other fish.

So wish I could spend the day there - the anniversary party sounds like it was a lot of fun!

We were there... but we got rained out in the end. BUT it was our 3rd weekend in a row there--love being an annual passholder!
