Disney Submits Films For Oscar Consideration

With the end of the year approaching fast, awards season is just around the corner. Recently, Disney put their hat into the Academy Awards ring, submitting four films for consideration for the Animated Feature Film category.

The films that Disney has put to the Academy for consideration are: Disney/Pixar's Cars 2, Touchstone Pictures' Gnomeo & Juliet, ImageMover Digital's Mars Needs Moms and Winnie the Pooh from Walt Disney Animation Studios. In addition to the four from Disney, there are fifteen other films submitted to the Academy; that's a grand total of eighteen films.

Other potential film competition includes: The Adventures of Tintin, Alois Nebel, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Arthur Christmas, A Cat in Paris, Chico & Rita, Happy Feet Two, Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots, Rango, Rio, The Smurfs, and Wrinkles.

For a film to be considered by the Academy to, it must first satisfy a theatrical run requirement in the city of Los Angeles within a calendar year. In addition, at least eight films have to be submitted to the Academy for them to activate the category.

The 84th annual Academy Awards nominations are set to be announced January 24, 2012, while the ceremony itself is slated for February 26, 2012.
