Disneynature’s ‘Monkey Kingdom’ Opens in Theaters on April 17, 2015

The sixth theatrical release from Disneynature, Monkey Kingdom, tells the story of new mom Maya, a blonde bobbed monkey in the jungles of South Asia.

The film is set among the ancient ruins in the jungle where Maya welcomes her first son, Kip, into the family. It follows Maya's story as she and her family are forced to relocate when then home at Castle Rock is taken over by neighboring monkeys.

Monkey Kingdom also features a mischievous mongoose, langur monkeys, leopards, and monitor lizards. The film was directed by Mark Linfield (Chimpanzee, Earth) and features music from award-winning composer Harry Gregson Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe).

The film opens on April 17, 2015 and for every ticket sold during the opening week (April 17-23), Disneynature will make a donation to Conservation International to help protect monkeys and other endangered animals in their habitats.

Disneynature was launched in April 2008 and was the first new Disney-branded film label in 60 years. The first five films from the label were Earth, Oceans, African Cats, Bears, and Chimpanzee and are among the top six highest grossing feature-length nature films of all time.

Through donations made during the opening week of Disneynature films the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund has planted three million trees in Brazil's Atlantic Forest, protected 65,000 acres of savanna in Kenya, and established 40,000 acres of marine protected area in The Bahamas, and more.
