Dust Off Your Tiaras and Tutus for the Princess Half Marathon at Disney this Weekend

This weekend more than 26,000 mostly female athletes are set to walk and/or run the 5th anniversary Disney's Princess Half Marathon! The main event concludes an exciting weekend of girl power that draws in athletes from around the world. The participants begin their run across the Walt Disney World at 5:35 a.m. to minimize traffic disruption, and the course should be clear by 9 a.m. as both parks open up to the public.

The 13.1-mile course starts just outside Epcot and takes runners through the Magic Kingdom and Cinderella Castle before finishing back at Epcot. Along the race route, runners from all 50 states and 32 countries (typically wearing colorful running costumes themselves) will encounter Disney entertainment and characters to cheer them along. Runners love collecting bling and for completing the half marathon each participant to cross the finish line will receive a commemorative 5th Anniversary Tiara Medal.

Growing by nearly 20,000 runners in the short 5 years the race has been happening, Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend has become one of the largest and most highly anticipated women-focused running events that there is. It's so popular that every one of the Princess events this year has sold out. The 2013 Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend includes fun events for participants and their families: Pasta in the Park Party, Post 5K Breakfast, Race Retreat, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse Royal Family 5K, runDisney Kids' Races, Disney's Princess Half Marathon on Sunday. The weekend also includes the Disney Fit for a Princess Expo at Coronado Springs Resort, featuring the latest running fashion, equipment and a guest speaker series featuring running experts such as official runDisney training consultant Jeff Galloway.

This is one of my very favorite Disney Special Events. I participated in the 2012 Royal Family 5K and have the goal of completing the 2014 Half Marathon. Do you runDisney? Are you heading down soon to participate in one of the fantastic Disney races? Stop by our runDisney Roll Call on the forums and let us know which races you'll be participating in!
