An Exciting New Stories For The Disney Cruise Line

Bob Chapek took the stage at D23 Expo to share his thoughts about the exciting projects coming to the Disney Cruise Line. He told the massive audience gathered before the D23 stage and shared his belief that every Disney moment a guest has should bring their favorite stories to life in thrilling ways. The Disney Cruise Line is reaching for that vision with new ships, and a brand new port destination that is pure magic.

Three new ships are in the works by DCL and fans at the D23 event were excited to hear that the first of them will be setting sail in January 2022. The "Disney Wish" will be graced by Rapunzel swinging from her golden locks on its stern because she embodies the spirit of exploration. Walking into the 3-story atrium onboard the ship, guests will feel like they have entered a fariy tale. "There couldn't be a better name for our incredible new ship because making wishes come true is part of the Disney DNA and is at the heart of so many of our cherished stories," said Chapek.

The three new Disney Cruise Line ships will all be powered by liquefied natural gas and, at approximately 144,000 gross tons and 1,250 guest staterooms, will be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.

Most Disney Cruise Line fans are familiar with the feeling of wanting another day or two at the exclusive Castaway Cay. Disney has heard the lament of Castaways found and announced an exciting new private destination in the Bahamas known as Light House Point. This one of the kind destination on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas is being spearheaded by none other than fan favorite Imagineer Joe Rhode.

Joe said during the panel that "the spirit of the team infuses the spirit of the project" and Disney is working closely with Bahamian leaders to create new ways to inspire Disney guests in this Bahamian resort. Local artists from Eleuthera are working to create original art and textiles for interior spaces that will be saturated with Bahamian culture, building on traditions like Junkanoo. Junkanoo is an amazing cultural event in the Bahamas, typically celebrated on Boxing Day and New Years Day in the Bahamas. A spirited street carnival, the colors and music typically experienced will infuse the camp at Lighthouse Point with the breath of celebration.

The extraordinary quality of nature itself is also being taken into account for the design of a "seaside adventure camp" that works with the unique landscapes of Lighthouse Point. The Eleuthera property will honor a deep and long standing commitment to the environment while creating new employment opportunities on the island of Eleuthera. Disney has been directly involved in conservation projects to preserve and protect the natural beauty of Lighthouse Point.

According to Disney Parks Blog, the "Disney Cruise Line has committed to develop less than 20 percent of the property; employ sustainable building practices, including an open-trestle pier that eliminates the need to dredge a ship channel; establish environmental monitoring programs during construction and operation; and donate more than 190 acres of privately owned land to Government, among other commitments."

A "dreamlike landscape of adventure by the sea" is what Disney Cruise Line guests can expect when pulling in to this new destination sometime in the future.
