Filming Begins on Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America is slated to save the world once again in 2014. Production on Captain America: The Winter Soldier started this week in Los Angeles, according to an announcement by Disney. Filming will also happen later this year in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington D.C.

The all-star cast includes Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, along with The Avengers stars Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Cobie Smulders (Agent Maria Hill). Anthony Mackie joins the cast as Sam Wilson (Falcon).

In a reprise of their original Captain America roles, Haley Atwell plays Peggy Carter, Toby Jones is Arnim Zola, and Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers' best friend who has been brought back from the dead and brainwashed into the Russian assassin The Winter Soldier.

Robert Redford has signed on to play Agent Alexander Pierce, a senior official within the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. Emily VanCamp, star of ABC TV's Revenge is starring as Sharon Carter, also known as Agent 13 - a love interest for Captain America and a relative to Captain's first love Peggy Carter. Anthony Mackie is starring as the superhero The Falcon.

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, is producing the film while Anthony and Joe Russo are in the director's chairs. The screenplay was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Opening on April 4, 2014 Captain America: The Winter Soldier starts up where The Avengers left off - Steve Rogers is still coming to terms with his role in the modern world. In the new movie he and Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Johansson) work together to fight a powerful enemy in Washington D.C.
