Disney announced in October 2014 that the 122-foot-tall hat would be removed in early 2015. The hat, while serving as the icon of the park since 2001, has its fair share of fans and detractors.

While Disney has not announced what will be the new icon for Disney's Hollywood Studios, fans have noticed that the Earful Tower is the logo for the park on the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon merchandise.

There is a retail shop located underneath the Sorcerer's Hat and merchandise from that store will be relocated to shops on Sunset Boulevard.

I know that there are a lot of people sad to see this go, but I've never liked it so I'm pretty happy about this.

I didn't mind it! Glad we got some pics in front of it in October.

We were just there on Friday and had our picture taken in front on the Sorcerer's Hat. It was so cool and my nephew loved it. I can't imagine what they would put in place of it. It will be sad to come back and it not be there because my nephew bought the sorcerer hat ears.

I was never a fan of the placement of it. . . The hat is cool. . .but ultimately. . .at the end of the day, it was a pin store. The Great Movie Ride building is iconic. . .the Earffel Tower is iconic. I think they are covered without it.

My family and I will sure miss this iconic land mark. I hope they replace it with something as GREAT!

While I had gone to the park before the hat was built, I really don't remember it because I was young. (Although I do remember the Earful Tower being used in merch.) So to me the hat has always kinda been there. I don't really feel strongly one way or the other. I would rather see them move it (maybe to outside the park?) then have it go away completely. Curious to see what changes happen next. They obviously have a plan, they are just not sharing yet.

I always liked it...not sure why but it just seemed to fit. I have mixed thoughts about it coming down - guess it depends on what will go up in its place.

I really hate that they are taking it down. The Sorcerer's Hat is iconic and such an endearing symbol to Mickey in the classic Sorcerer's Apprentice. It's a shame.

Sandi - My issue with the hat really stems from the focus being shifted away from what were the original icons of the Park (the theater and earful tower) and that old Hollywood feeling which that area was supposed to embody. It changed the theming of the area and was incongruent with the inspired design.
