The course is on the site of the former Disney's Osprey Ridge Golf Course which was designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1992.

Fazio redesigned the course for its opening as the Tranquilo Golf Club. The course enhancements included creating a new hole, renovating the bunkers, improved visibility, new landscape design, and a fully renovated clubhouse.

The name Tranquilo pays homage to the Four Seasons' Spanish Revival design and tranquil setting that features oak trees with Spanish moss.

The Tranquilo course is certified by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary program for golf by the National Audubon Society. The native plants and trees on the course and the naturalized areas that were created provide water and food for local and migratory wildlife, which lead to the course's certification.

The Tranquilo course is available for individual tee times up to 60 days in advance for registered resort guests. The general public can reserve tee times up to 30 days in advance. The course encourages family play and kids 12 and younger play free with an adult.

From November 16 through January 16, 2015 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. the rate is $155 per play for 18 holes. From 2 to 4 p.m. during the same time period it costs $105 per player for 18 holes. Guests can enjoy seven holes on the course for $77.

After January 16, 2015 rates will increase to $195 for 18 holes (7 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and $125 for 18 holes after 2 p.m. These rates are good through May 25, 2015. From May 26 through September 24, 2015 rates are $95 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and $47 after 2 p.m.
