Wolfgang Puck Cafe Express at Downtown Disney

UPDATE 10/17/20: Wolfgang Puck Express has been closed permanently and no long operates at Disney Springs.

Celebrity Chef Wolfgang Puck gives Walt Disney World Guests a wide variety of choices when it comes to dining at Downtown Disney. The main spot for Puck's world famous cuisine is located on the West Side of the shopping, dining, and entertainment complex. A "vibrant restaurant that showcases the casual dishes that made Puck famous" actually houses several different dining styles at this one location. Dining options include the bustling Casual Cafe, the Sushi Bar, the upscale Dinning Room, and the Cafe Express.

I had a fantastic dinner several years ago in the cafe, but during my last trip, we stopped in for a quick lunch at the Wolfgang Puck Cafe - Express Side. The entrance to the Express cafe is just off to the left of the restaurant's main door through the patio. The majority of the interior is taken up with the open Express Pizza kitchen, where you can watch the guys cooking up some delicious combinations. Next to the window there are a couple of tall tables, but most of the seating here is outside.

The West Side Cafe Express offers a small menu of sandwiches, salads, and gourmet pizzas, as well as a small selection of grab and go sushi. Guests order at a small cafe register, and are given an order number to place on their table, they are then are free to find a seat. It's worth noting that even though menu items aren't marked with the Disney Dining Plan logo, you can use your quick service credits at the Express Counter.

To be adventurous I ordered the Meatloaf Sandwich. Now, that might not sound too exciting to you - but I'm mighty picky about my meatloaf, so I figured that I would either love it or hate it. When it arrived at our table I was presented with more than just a slab of loaf on some bread. This was a bacon wrapped meatloaf, covered in melty gouda cheese, and topped with crunchy onion straws and a herbed aioli on what seemed to be a brioche bun. It was rich, meaty, and delicious. However, I'll admit I only ate half of it because I was completely in love with the fresh warm house made parmesan chips that I simply could not stop shoveling into my mouth.

The next dish that we tried was the Mac & Cheese, which again seems like it would be pretty run of the mill fare, but that's just not the case at Wolfgang's place. According to my husband this was quite possibly the best Mac & Cheese that he had ever had. The cavatapi pasta was perfectly cooked, with just enough firmness - not tough and chewy nor mushy. The sauce was velvety-smooth, possibly a bechamel base, and thick enough to give you a great taste of multiple creamy cheeses in every bite. When it arrived, it was topped with a sprinkle of toasted bread crumbs and chives that added a nice little crunch and pop of flavor.

Finally we had what was declared to be the hit of the meal, Wolfgang Puck's BBQ Chicken Pizza. Two of my dining companions ordered this, and both of them said that it was one of the best things they ate on the entire trip. Big chunks of chicken were coated in a sweet BBQ sauce, and covered in mozzerella cheese, on top of a crisp neapolitan style crust fresh from the woodfire oven. It was simple, memorable, and truly tasty.

Before we left we grabbed dessert from the case, and chose the divine Key Lime Pie. Overall we found this to be an exceptional use of our quick service credits, next time, we may venture over to the Wolfgang Puck express on the Marketplace side and check out their expanded menu.

I've only been to the Express in Marketplace for breakfast (and eaten dinner the Cafe in West Side) - really like both of them.

That mac n cheese looks fab, the more gooey the better in my book!

I agree, it's probably the best value QS credits on property.

If we don't hit up Earl of Sandwich, this is our second fav in DTD! Great hot food and decent pricing. Really enjoyed the pizza lat time we were there.

I am getting that pizza in September!
We went there a couple years ago and I had the best chicken pot pie ever. So good. I'm not sure if it's still on the menu though...
