Walt Disney World Speedway to be Demolished for Magic Kingdom Parking Lot Expansion

Earlier this year the Walt Disney World Resort announced plans to close the Walt Disney World Speedway, known affectionately as the Mickyard. The Speedway is home to the Richard Petty Driving Experience and was the home of the Exotic Driving Experience, which closed this spring after a fatal accident.

Exotic Driving Experience Operations Manager and Instructor Gary Terry Killed in Accident on Race Course

A fatal accident at the Richard Petty Exotic Driving Experience at the Walt Disney World Speedway on April 13 claimed the life of longtime team member Gary Terry. The 36-year-old was the Senior Operations Manager and professional driving instructor for the Exotic Driving Experience and was a passenger in the car at the time of the crash.

The Walt Disney World Speedway is closing in June which means the end of the Richard Petty Driving Experience and the Exotic Driving Experience. The closure of the "Mickyard," as the Speedway was often referred to, means that nearly 70 people will be out of jobs.

For one day this June, the ultimate exotic car experience is coming to the Walt Disney World Speedway with the Fittipaldi Cup.

On June 13 The Fittipaldi Cup comes to the Speedway and this one-of-a-kind program gives participants a chance to drive supercars, street cars, and karts in timed and scored events.

The drivers participating in the event are competing to win the Fittipaldi Cup trophy. The exotic car event includes two 6-lap driving experiences in cars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, and Nissan.
