Magic Bands came in the mail yesterday! Don't be concerned over the fact that 3 out of the 4 of them are green... We'll be painting them this weekend so we'll be able to tell them apart Smile

Personally designing your MB with paint is a great idea!!! I would love to see how your magic bands look once you paint them.

Just a little tip about the Frozen Fireworks show. Be sure to find a spot for the Fireworks show at least 30 minutes early, if you want to see or hear anything. If you want any kind of decent view of the fireworks and the stage show that accompanies the fireworks, you have to be close to the stage, but not too close because you won't be able to see much of the fireworks. Standing in the middle of the street was the best view but it was wall to wall people more than 30 minutes before the fireworks started. It was packed from the stage the whole way back to the entrance. We could barely even find a spot to cross the street.

They had several different locations taped off where you could stand, other than the street, but most places were obstructed views. We couldn't see the stage or fireworks around umbrellas and trees or hear the stage show at all.

I hope you have a better viewing experience with the Fireworks than we did because what we could see of the Fireworks was great!
BTW, if you get a chance, I highly recommend the Frozen sing-a-long stage show. It was leaps and bounds better than I expected it to be! It lasted about 25 minutes and it was really cute.

Thanks for the tips, Angie! We definitely plan to do both the sing a long and the fireworks so we'll make sure to allow time to scout a good spot!

What kind of paint are you using on the Magic Bands? I wanted to try this, but I wasn't sure what would stick well and be easy to control on the rubbery surface. I saw someone's band who had used sharpie and that seemed like a reasonable solution.

We ended up buying decals from myfantasybands.com, but they have been ordered to halt sales while they deal with some trouble from Disney legal. We haven't tried those yet (I'm waiting for all of the bands to arrive to I can make sure I put the best decal on the best color band...yeah I know...crazy), but I figured that they will probably work because I'm sure that they did some sort of testing process.

One thing I can guarantee that I will not be doing to make my magic band look prettier is buying the special Olaf band for $29.99 eek

We're doing acrylic paint and then spraying them with a top coat so that they hopefully don't crack from bending. I'll let you know how it goes!

don't they have names on them?

yes but the names are on the underneath side of the band..the part that is against your skin...so no one can see them....it is only so you know who the band belongs to in your party if you take it off for some reason..mine says EvilQueen and Amy has NoCapes.

Yup they have our names on them so we would be able to tell them apart that way, we just want to jazz them up a bit and make them a little more distinguishable from each other.

Let us know how the acrylic works! It will most likely crack or flake so I would definitely recommend a spray top coat almost immediately after painting to make sure to seal it to the bands. I like the idea of Sharpie. I have used them on tons of surfaces and they almost always stay clear and vibrant. If only they had white magic bands as an option so we could completely customize them.

My only worry with a sharpie is I was scared about the colors showing up well on a colored band. Have you had any experience with that EmFord? I've heard nail polish works well, too.

I haven't personally tried to use Sharpie on a magic band specifically but based other projects I've done, the color of the band will warp the colors so if you went that route I would stick to dark or complementary colors (like blue would probably still work on the green). Thats why I wish they offered all white because you could do some really cool things with sharpie if that were the case. On the other hand they do make those oil-based paint sharpies that claim to work on all surfaces, but I haven't tested them.. example ---> http://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Oil-Based-Markers-Fashion-1770459/dp/B003VQ9M04/ref=pd_sim_op_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1VJ7B045W0YKJ14AKA6Z

I read on a blog (can't remember the name right now...) that nail polish worked for one girl. She used paint brushes in the nail polish and let it dry for 24 hours without touching it then applied multiple top coats for days before her trip. She said that it held up for her 10 day trip but it did start to chip afterwards, but that won't matter unless you plan on wearing it religiously after your vacay. If you stick with acrylic I would definitely look for a top coat that is rubber/plastic specific (I know they sell them at automotive/hardware stores if you can't find one at a craft store).

Already got it! I know that they sell covers, decals, etc but we're not interested in those. DH came up with some fun designs to try out so we're going that route. If they chip, they chip. It's only a 7 day vacation and I won't come home crying if my magic band isn't immaculate at the end. We're going to try it out and see how it goes, though awesome

Was able to snag a FP+ for Be Our Guest lunch this morning for Thursday from 11:05am to 11:35am! stars

Just a tip for anyone trying to book one of these: for my trip at least each day opened up 27 days in advance. So it wasn't like ADRs or other FP+ where your whole trip opens on a certain day. Sunday, August 31st was available on Monday, August 4th and Monday, September 1st was available on Tuesday, August 5th and so on. If you're looking for a specific time slot or are just obsessive like me, I would keep checking for the first day of your trip to open up and then you should be able to figure out which day you should come back to book based on that. I also still have not gotten an email from Disney inviting me to FP+ BOG, I just kept checking the site.

yeah yay stars That's so awesome you got a Be Our Guest lunch FP+!
We don't ever stay on property so we can't get a lunch FP+. I'm hoping that we are at MK one of the weekends that they are testing the new return time cards for lunchtime at BOG.

The only ones I've seen with sharpie art were done by a bride and groom. They did an all-black design over a pink band for the bride. I don't remember what color band the groom had. They looked great, but they hadn't worn them yet, so I have no idea if that was a durable solution.
