Animation Courtyard

Has anyone heard anything about Animation Courtyard at HS closing soon?!? I have not been able to find anything definitive on it, but I have read some rumors on a couple of other sites. I love the animation classes and would be super bummed to see this go. I have fingers crossed that this is another no-so-true Disney rumor. confused eek

I haven't heard anything, but it would make sense as they move away from the idea of a functioning studio. That's also a lot of real estate that doesn't draw very large crowds.

I've heard it's closing for a refurb to accommodate more people. Really hoping that's the truth!

I would be okay with that! I really, really hope that is the case.

I hope not because Studios can not afford much more to be closed without closing the park completely. That would be another "attraction" down.

I hope it stays open, that's one of our must do attractions. So much fun.

I haven't heard anything regarding Animation Courtyard. If they do get rid of it, then there's no character meet and greets there and the drawing class will be gone, as well. And that probably means we won't see "studios" in the newest name either.

If anything, they should close some of their shows for good. A lot of people really hate Lights Motors Action and think that show has run its course, not to mention it takes up so much space. As much as I love Indiana Jones, I think 26 years has been overdue and I would love to see Star Wars take over and give fans something more than just Jedi Training Academy. (Plus I like Star Wars, as well so I'd be perfectly fine having Star Wars take the Indiana Jones show space.) I've also heard clamors for Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage to go, as well.

I've heard rumors of the closing, but nothing solid and reportable yet.

Is conventional wisdom such that we should hear something about HS at D23 in August? And didn't Iger mess up a few months ago and let "Hollywood Adventure" slip out?

Looks like there's some truth to the rumor...

Guess we'll have to wait til D23 for answers on what exactly will come to the park formerly known as Hollywood Studios. One Man's Dream is also closing, as well. I have a bright and smart idea. Move One Man's Dream over Epcot and have it replace Captain EO. If it's only the film, so be it. I think that will make some amends. EO really has no business being in Epcot for this long.

Awww Animation Academy is one of my favorites! I hope they keep some variation of it if they decide to ax the Courtyard.

HS is my husband's favorite park, and every time they change something it gives him another reason to not agree with another trip. gaah

I have heard that One Man's Dream will be relocated and I've heard rumors that the drawing class is getting expanded.

Thanks, Mandy!! That's the best news I've heard all day!! I was so upset about Animation Academy closing that I emailed Bob Iger. Unfortunately I didn't know about One Man's Dream at that point and I don't want to seem like any more of a crazy person! LOL. Honestly, I feel like One Man's Dream belongs on Main Street--kind of like how Disneyland has the Disneyland Gallery in the front of the park. If Hollywood Studios really is dumping all "studio" aspects, maybe moving Animation Academy to Innoventions with a post-show exhibit about the changing technologies used to animate films would work well. If they do relocated the drawing class crossfingers , I definitely hope that they expand the capacity...and maybe even list it as a FP option!

I got a return email from an assistant in Bob Iger's office requesting that I call her. I actually had an opportunity to talk with her for about 10 minutes and of course she can't confirm or deny anything, but I felt like her tone may have hinted toward the rumor of a new and improved Animation Academy and maybe even One Man's Dream being part of the plan in some way. crossfingers crossfingers crossfingers

I would love to see the drawing class at Magic Kingdom or EPCOT. One Man's Dream belongs at Magic Kingdom. I think it would fit nicely where Stitch's Great Escape is currently!

I received a mail back from Guest Services which glossed over the questions I asked but said that the Magic of Disney Animation was closing to make way for a new attraction already in development and will be closing 12 July. The Animation Gallery gets a stay of execution till August.

Other than that, they didn't answer my questions of what would happen to One Man's Dream or whether they'd keep an element of traditional animation history at the park...
