Attractions targeted at Kids - should I avoid

Time for total truth.

Today, I asked this question on a FB group that I used to "follow" and got flamed for it. So let me say upfront that I know that Disney will have kids and families and I understand that I am going at a busy time. I am not a kid hater and for goodness sake I think WDW is for everyone. muchlove

In your opinion what attractions are "more for kids"? What comes to mind is something like Disney Jr. Live. But what about Turtle Talk with Crush or similar attractions?

My husband and I are 48 years old and this is our 18th trip.

I would love to hear your thoughts and perhaps not get blasted for being a kid hater. mickey

Turtle Talk with Crush is definitely aimed at the kiddos, but DH and I love going there just to hear some of the things the kids say. It's a riot! The technology is pretty cool, too.

I have always skipped Disney Jr. because I assumed that it was geared more towards children, and to be honest, I've never seen the stuff on TV. I did sit in on Turtle Talk once though, and agree with Allie that its a hoot listening to the kids interact with Crush.

With a majority of Disney being aimed at kids, (I have one of my own so I don't "hate" kids either) I just kinda go with the flow. If it is something I like, I do it. I plan on riding the Barnstormer this trip and Dumbo just because I CAN! laugh Now things like Disney Jr Live and such, we will skip. But like Allie, we loved Turtle Talk with Crush. I just wouldn't rush to do it again.

We are going on our first adults only trip in a few weeks and I still want to do some of the things we would do with Blondie. I'm ready to be a kid again this trip. (mixed in with some great food and adult beverages of course!)

I don't think anyone should blast you for looking for a good "adult experience" while in the bubble, it's there for all of us to enjoy in our own way. I wonder if some of those people say those things because they haven't had the opportunity of having an adults only trip??? I've seen some of those threads, people freak out if someone mentions "kid free" "least amount of children" "best dining with the least kids" I am sure if they had the chance to go without their brood they would look for an experience more tailored to themselves.

We've never done any of the Disney Jr. experiences, not the show, nor the character meal. I don't know any of those characters.

I try to do Turtle Talk with Crush every trip. Yes, it's for kids, but it's fun for everyone.

In my mind, the difference between the two is that the Disney Jr. shows and characters are aimed exclusively at children, whereas the major Disney and Pixar films are meant to entertain the whole family. You don't have to be a child to enjoy Finding Nemo, so IMO it follows that you don't have to be a child to enjoy Turtle Talk, or Finding Nemo: The Musical. Same with the Lion King (for Pete's sake, it's based on Hamlet!), all the Toy Story movies, Wreck-it Ralph, etc., etc.

Just because I have three kids and love my kids, doesn't mean that I love other people's kids. There are plenty of times that I try to avoid wee ones at Disney. As long as people aren't spouting anti-child hate (which you are not) there's no judging here, we're a friendly folk. muchlove

I avoid the Disney Jr areas at DHS, and honestly I don't always go to Fantasyland. I've never been on the Winnie the Pooh attraction, and the Tomorrowland Speedway does nothing for me since I have to drive every day at home. At Epcot I think that The Seas with Nemo and Friends is absolutely geared towards kids, which is sad to me because when it was "The Living Seas" it was one of my favorite attractions.

I think the place I try to avoid children the most is when I make my dining choices. There are a couple of restaurants that I won't go to because it always seems like kids are just running around crazy everywhere.

OOoo Tomorrowland Speedway is a good one. Not much fun for drivers license wielding adults. Plus the one time I was on it the kid behind us kept ramming into us. No thanks!

Also I have a one year old daughter and hold no hate in my heart for you for wanting to go to Disney and skip the kid centered attractions. I've been on two adult only trips so far so I definitely feel you. It's like when you have a parent date night and don't want to hear the kid that got brought along at the next table screaming in your air and poking you over the back of the booth. laugh

My DH and I are in our later 30's and we don't have kids. We are locals and we've had AP for almost 7 years and the first few years I avoided certain rides and attractions that I thought were mainly for children(i.e., Crush, Dumbo, Small world, Peter Pan) I avoided these because I was worried we would be very out of place and conspicuous without children, not because I didn't want to be around a lot of little ones. Over the last few years I have completely gotten over this issue and we have tried every attraction and ride we have always wanted to try and enjoyed almost every one. There is inly one attraction where I've ever felt a little uncomfortable without kids.
The only attraction where I felt a little awkward was Storytime with Belle in MK. It was cute and worth doing it once, but it is a "one and done for us." I felt it was mainly for children and for the parents to enjoy watching their children act out the story and meet Belle. It felt like going to a dance recital with no kids in the recital. Every parent was thrilled when their kids were on stage, but the parents without kids on stage were a little antsy and bored.

I want to try each ride once when I am there but I will probably skip the Disney junior bit in DHS as I have never watched it. Although DS thinks I should, I won't do the P&F walk round adventure thing in Epcot. As for everything else, I will give a go once and if I like it I shall go again (time permitting)
I will also be meeting a few characters - so far I don't think I will meet Duffy, I just don't get him, but if he walks up to me in the street I will say hi (can't ignore the little fella, that's rude) biggrin
I understand that turtle talk is the same as Stitch live in DLP - DS and I love this!! I have been known to sit on the carpet at the front with the littlies. So I would never exclude this from my list. In fact in Paris stitch interacts with the adults nearly as much as the kids.

It really upsets me when other adults judge people for being big kids and saying things like 'why ride dumbo ect it supposed to be for children' we are all different and so what if my fun comes in the form of riding a large flying elephant! For my 2 weeks in disney I shall be the biggest kid going and love every minute of it.

I too do not hate children, they taste great with bbq sauce wink

Absolutely! If you haven't done this it's totally worth doing once, but it is absolutely geared towards kids even though there are adult parts to be played. I plan on doing it in February only because Katie has asked me to. There are some very nice special effects and the entire set is beautiful, but the story part was just meh for me.

We loved the beginning in Maurice's workshop and the special effects(I don't want to ruin it for anyone by being specific) waiting to get into the final room to meet Belle. After we had finished everything we both said we would really love to do the first two rooms again if we could skip the final show with Belle.

You are all so wonderful. I spent the bulk of the morning moping. All of my Disney Friends are non-local to me so I was in my office being all emo.

Thank you so much. I LOVE character greets and geek out just as much as any kid would. I am glad that I am not nuts and someone understands my POV.

Bless you all.

What are you kidding? We all get your point of view! I'm 53 and love Peter Pan, Dumbo, Barnstormer, Turtle Talk, It's Disney! But yes we avoid some things that are specifically geared towards kids, and sometimes we don't. Heck we have been loving Aladin's Magic Carpet ride the last few years. Kids, so what, you cares. But they better not try to get my red carpet or they're going in the water!.

When I first started researching our trip, I was quite concerned about how others would view a man in his 40's and his wife waiting in line to meet Tinker Bell or riding a flying elephant but have come to the conclusion that Disney is for everyone! Everyone I know who've been to WDW and are our age said they loved it and would happily go again and that nobody seemed to care what attractions they enjoyed.

The only thing we really avoid is stitch. But that is not because of kids. I can see disney jr really targeting those that watch it on TV but as mature visitors that are normally kid free we see everything as fair game.

ZOMG, I love Stitch but I may be weird. At least there are no zombies, well not at Thanksgiving time. I think I might not have appreciated Halloween this year with the popularity of zombies.

Being only 23 myself, I, too, have avoided the Disney Junior area in the Studios because well, I don't have a personal connection with any of their programs. Have I heard about it or read stuff online about the TV shows? Yes, I have but they don't exactly resonate for me. I have to agree with crazycatperson's comments on how Disney Jr is targeted towards children in particular whereas the films we all know and love are more for the entire family so to speak.

I have to agree with those sentiments. The animatronics are well done and the transition from Maurice's cottage to the library is impressive but the rest is just not for me. The "experience" is inferior as a regular meet and greet because a regular meet and greet is more personal, one-on-one whereas Enchanted Tales doesn't have much interaction.

laugh laugh Amen sista!

I love kids, and their joy and excitement, but I truly dislike when they are left to run and scream and generally wreak havoc while the parents turn a blind eye.

Aside from the fact the Mr Hub is waaaaaaaay older than me sarcastic I totally agree. And I'll be the first to admit I'm not a kid fan at all, but there is something kinda fun about seeing kids experiencing the magic of Disney, be it for the first time or just because.

I think Disney is one of the few (Maybe only) places where age is mostly meaningless when it comes to excitement and fun, and only there are the CMs able to make you feel completely at home at any and all attractions. So I say do what you like and enjoy!

Mr. Hub there was this one time (at WDW) that I literally RAN to get in line for a Stitch Meet and Greet. Once I got there I did not allow kids to get in line before me. (I normally will let kids go first if they seem super excited.) He was fixing to leave and I was not missing it. For some reason there are not a lot of Stitch Character Encounters.
