Hrmmm... not sure what I think about this.
I thought that the Tron one fit into Epcot well with the themeing. This is more of just a big billboard to me.

LOL, yes!! I like it because I'm a big Avengers fan. The Tron one didn't bother me too much when we were there. I could definitely see them starting to do this in the future for promotions. This one looks pretty cool too.

Yes. You are showing your age. And thanks for doing it. Mentioning Mrs. Peel brings back some teenage boyhood memories well worth remembering.

Interesting debate. My only two cents...I wish the monorail featured Tony Stark instead of Iron Man Smile

I thought the same thing oddly, even though I never watched that show.

Is this the first time they've done anything overtly Marvel in the parks? I'm still not sold that I'll like seeing Marvel characters in the Disney parks.

I cant remember where I read it, so I guess take this as a rumor till I can confirm it... but Disney is trying to incorporate Marvel more into Disney since they purchased it. I know the big rumor before Avatar was announced was a new park with nothing but top thrill ride featuring the Marvel franchise. But I think with Avatar being confirmed... any type of ride that is Marvel themed is shelved... but if they do end up doing a "ride"... id say it will be based on The Avengers and put in HS.

I think this is the first big thing. Our last trip we noticed some Marvel stuff only because my son saw it. In our local Disney store, there is a ton of Marvel items - shirts, figures, etc.

I think it's neat as long as it's something that comes and goes..if they did this to ALL of the monorails that would be obnoxious..but one..every once and awhile is OK with me!

I will not be able to let me husband know about this though..especially if I ever intend to use the monorail to get anywhere on time. We'd have to sit..and wait..and wait..and wait for that stinkin' monorail!

And so it begins, Marvel is seeping into the pores of WDW!

Disney pretty much own Marvel now, they bought the catalogue of characters and more so Universal can't do much, if anything now with their Superhero Island. They plan on incorporating Marvel into the parks over the next however many years, Mickey Mouse and Iron Man, duelling it out on the stage in front of the Castle....that gives me chills and not in a good way!

Universal had really let the Marvel brand slip even before Disney had bought it. I think that if they hadn't the opportunity wouldn't have been there For Disney to step in at all. I had a friend who is an escape artist and he used to do a lot of work at Universal as various superheroes for promotions, over the years those opportunities became fewer and fewer as Universal made more and more and more cuts to it's budget. They just weren't interested in nursing the brands, Universal wanted a cash cow that didn't take any work, and that isn't what was happening. Disney has been very careful with waiting for contract dates to expire and subtly bringing in the Marvel heroes first through merchandise. I noticed Spiderman in a Universal commercial the other day and found it to be a little jarring after their huge Harry Potter push.

I highly doubt that we'll see super heroes in front of the Castle. Disney is pretty careful with their themes, and they have a lot more places that the Marvel heroes fit in that are outside of the Magic Kingdom.

Like say... Hollywood Studios, a park that most people think needs a boost anyhow. It's much more likely that they will be appearing there than anyplace else. Especially since Disney has been carefully nursing that motion picture branding, they're putting in great efforts in bringing the brand back to life with live action. Disney XD is also going to great lengths to revitalize the animated creations of the Marvel Universe. Planned carefully we could possibly see Marvel themed special events in the future that could bring in significant business to Hollywood Studios in the same fashion that Star Wars Weekends does.

I've noticed Thor merchandise in Norway at Epcot, which oddly enough, didn't offend me. I wouldn't say that Marvel's Thor is culturally significant, however you never know what is going to spark the imagination of a child and open doorways into culture and history. Using Thor to get kids excited about part of Epcot is pretty brilliant. I would be perfectly happy with a Stark Enterprises "future technology" exhibit in one of the Communicore buildings, especially if Robert Downey Junior did a video clip or voice over for it.

I still think a Thrill Park will open with the theme of Marvel to be honest... you cant have something like The Avengers come out and not try to capitalize on it. They are gaining popularity and its only going to help with Spiderman being rebooted, and Batman is on the way out with Nolan saying that this is the final Batman. So im honestly surprised Disney hasnt said they werent coming out with a new theme park centered on them.
