A BIG problem with a split stay!

We are giving our dog sitter a trip to the world to thank her. This will be her first trip to Disney World! We have booked a split stay. She will first stay 3 nights in Bay Lake Tower on DVC points. Then she will move to the Poly which I booked as a package. Since the DVC booking required no payment, I booked the package part with a seven day park hopper ticket. Yesterday was the 60 day mark. I went in to do fastpass and could only book from the first day of the Poly part of the trip. We tried everything to figure out how to book them for the first three days of the trip. Finally we decided to just call for help. The answer was not what we wanted to hear. Although she will be able to use the ticket before the Poly part of the trip, we can not make fastpasses for those days!

There seems to be no real fix for this. I first thought I would just drop the tickets from the Poly reservation and add them to the Bay Lake Tower reservation. However, it is booked as a package with a dining plan. If I drop the tickets, the meal plan goes too. My second thought was to drop the 7 day ticket to 4 and add a 3 day ticket to the Bay Lake reservation. But....WOW!!! That would cost an additional $500. I ended up just shuffling a few days plans around so I could book the hardest to get fastpasses. Not a great solution but the best I could come up with. First time we have ran into a problem that could not be fixed.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

You can book packages with just dining plan and room now, no tickets needed. Just call and have them adjust it for you over the phone. It can't be done online but I've booked plenty of trips for people with just dining plan and room.

I had a similar situation last year and I was told at that time that since the ticket was linked to the second package that it couldn't be used during the stay on the first package. Honestly, I think that's incorrect because the only thing that should affect the ticket is that it must be used within 14 days of the first use, but but it ended up not mattering for the guest in the long run, so I never got a true resolution to the situation.

I did call back. The CM I spoke to was very nice. She tried so hard to resolve the problem. She even put me on hold to speak with someone else. However, I was still told that I could not book a package without tickets. She too, said the tickets would work for the first part of the stay but there is no way to make fastpass selections for those days. I left the reservations as they were. I did get all of the important FP selections in each park using the four days that I could make them. So, it ends up not being a big deal. But, I do think that there really should be a way to fix this issue.

Wow... this sounds like a technical/programming issue with their system rather than a policy restriction. Logically, it would make sense to be able to use the tickets, but it sounds like they cannot technically do it. Interesting situation.

I am shocked to hear that. I have made numerous package reservations that only included dining plan and room, no tickets, in the past year or so. To me it would have made sense to cancel the tickets on the Poly portion and have the Poly be a package with room and dining and then add the tickets to the Bay Lake portion. Maybe there is some part of this that I'm missing that complicates it, or maybe the CM didn't fully understand what you were trying to do, but based off of what I have experienced that should have worked.

Allie, that is exactly what I wanted to do. Both times I called I simply wanted to drop the tickets from the Poly reservation. I was told both times I could not keep the meal plan without having tickets purchased with that reservation. They both told me the only way to book a room only and then add a meal plan was if I was booking a annual pass room only. While we do have annual passes, I could not book an annual pass room only for someone else who did not have one unless we would be traveling with them.

That is so odd! Unless something has changed in the past couple of weeks, I definitely know it is possible to book a package with just room and dining, no tickets, even for non-AP holders. I booked a trip for someone a couple of months ago that could get discount tickets through work and so we booked her just a room and dining.
