Cars was....eh.

I took my toddler who loved the first Cars. This one not so much!

Too many explosions, "killings" and not enouch McQueen! Plus, the plot was really mature! Has anyone seen it yet?

I haven't, but friends of ours went and had the same opinion - their 4 year old, who loves Cars, was apparently really scared by the movie and the "Kill Lightning McQueen!" scenes.

Wait.... killings? Really? I assume it has to do with the spy stuff? Thats a shame. I never understood WHY they had to bring in the "spy" element. When someone asked John Lasseter why bring the spy stuff... he said he was influenced with the spy movies. Im thinking... wait...? Then make a spy movie. Dont do this to Cars.

Yeah, it was the spy stuff, they were going to "kill" some cars. Exactly what I was thinking. Do a new spy movie with Pixar, not Cars!

Well... my son wants to see it, but were waiting till its a movie of the week at our theater. It will be 5 bucks when that happens, and was going to take Brooklin too (She is 2)... I may not now... thats sad.

But seriously... why is Pixar going ultra mature? If you think about it... the themes in Wall-E arent really for children. In Toy Story... they about "destroy" the toys. Im all for subtle adult humor, but we dont need to do this to kids...

Weird..I heard it was a spy movie--and I thought that seemed really odd. I wonder what made them think that was an awesome idea.

Random..was this movie available in 3-D?

Yeah... Cars is in 3D, and here is an article to answer your question about the spy element

http://www.flicksandbits.com/2011/06/26/john-lasseter-interview-for-cars-2/13120/

Quote:
John Lasseter: For Cars 2 the spy movie came out of a scene that took place in the Drive-in movie theatre in Cars 1. That scene shifted, but we had developed a movie within a movie, a spy movie. I love spy movies, that's when we first came up with the idea of Finn McMissle. I always thought it would be really cool because in our world the spy and the spy car are one and the same. Even though that got cut from the first movie I always had that in mind. I thought it would be fun if we had a chance to do a new film.

You can click on the link for the full bit, but it does contain a bit of spoilers about what happened between cars 1 and 2.

I still want to see it personally. DD has not much interest, and DS is too young and could care less. I watched Cars by myself...will probably watch this one alone, too Smile But I might wait for the DVD. Next Disney movie for me is Winnie the Pooh!

Yeah its definitely going to be a wait for DVD movie for me. But Winnie the Pooh is another story...my brother and I grew up watching Winnie the Pooh. My mom even said she would go see it with us. I'm glad a whole new generation will get to experience and fall in love with Winnie the Pooh too! mickey

I never saw Cars until it happened to be showing on a flight I was on. I'm even less enthused about this one. They're the two worst reviewed Pixar films, although Cars 2 is getting much worse ones than Cars.

My kids loved it. My son especially liked all the "James Bond" aspects to the movie. I thought it was more about Mater the tow truck than Lightning McQueen. It was okay but nothing to jump up and down about.

We just got back from seeing it. My son liked it, my daughter fell asleep, and I thought it was........ eh. The sad thing is... I liked it better than Cars 1, but thats not saying much, but I came into it dreading what I have always been saying. This should had been 2 seperate movies. Not one. What I liked was the racing between McQueen and the italian racer. For me... I have never been a fan of Mater. I understood his role in Cars, but just didnt like him. My son said it best after the movie. He said this was just a movie from those Mater Tales, and I agree fully. McQueen took the back seat in this flick, and I guess that bugged me. I could keep going but it would just be fluff. Cars was about racing... not spies. Wanna make a spy movie with cars and Mater... make a seperate movie. I LOVED the idea of bringing in the BEST racers from EACH specific race style into ONE major race, and it was hardly featured in it...

Hi everyone,

I have no desire to see Cars 2 but liked Cars 1. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think any of the movies for which I've seen advertisements this year (on TV or elsewhere) are any good.

That's good to know. I really liked the first one. We haven't seen the second tho, but it looks like it's dramatically different from the first.

Yes, I think it is very different. It's absolutely a Mater Movie, with the race as a side story. It has an action/adventure feeling to it. I liked Cars 2 a lot better than the first one, but I can see how fans of the first one would be luke warm on the second.

I have watched the first one so much I almost have it memorized..chaaa chinngg! eek In case you're wondering it is not me who requests to watch it everyday.

We still haven't gotten the second one. I don't know why..lack of effort I guess. We meant to grab it for DS for Christmas but Santa forgot.
