Day 2: The Not-Quite-President's-Day Trip Report

Got up the next morning and marveled again at the view of the Grand Floridian (it's even prettier in the morning!) and the weather. The first few days of the trip have been between 50 and 80, with abundant sunshine--pretty much perfect. Thunderstorms are forecasted for the final 4 days of the trip, so we'll enjoy it while it's here!

I went for a run in the Contemporary health club, and then it was off to Epcot for our early Le Cellier lunch. Epcot seemed pretty empty, but we didn't try to get on Soarin' or Test Track, which are the real measures! Instead, we headed over to World Showcase to the always crowded Le Cellier. As usual, they were turning away at the door people without reservations.

We had a wonderful lunch, as usual. We hadn't been to Le Cellier since our early 2008 trip, so it had been about a year since we'd eaten there, and we were excited to try the new chorizo appetizer. Together, we ordered the cheddar cheese soup, chorizo with corn polenta, mushroom filet, and steak burger. Everything was supreme, as usual, and the new appetizer (well--new to US anyway) was really interesting. The chorizo and the corn created an unusual and fun combination of both tastes and textures. We really enjoyed it.

After this, we went to do the Kim Possible Adventure (as deemed necessary by our dear forum members!). We only had time for one mission, but it was so much fun I'm hoping to go back later in the week to do more! Here are some pics of our mission (we saved Germany from an evil plot to brainwash visitors via tainted pretzels!):

After this it was back to the room to freshen up a bit, check in on work, and head over to our first experience with Citricos! We monorailed over to Citricos and were a bit taken aback by the restaurant's set up. It seemed strange to not have doors on a restaurant! It just seemed to be plopped down in a forgotten area of the Grand Floridian!

But our initial impression was quickly forgotten when we tried the food. It was spectacular. I dove into a margarita and we ordered the cheese plate, some fried risotto balls (sounds weird, but they were great), short ribs, and filet. Everything was amazing, and although the service was slow, we enjoyed our dinner immensely. We finished the evening off with the Celebrate Today! dessert--a lemon cheesecake, and a banana/chocolate tart.

Still raring to go, we went back to the room, changed into play clothes, and walked to the Magic Kingdom for extra magic hours. The park was again pretty empty (though we expected it to be packed, being a Sunday), and after fastpassing Space Mountain (I wonder how they decide when to have fastpasses at EMH--sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't) we rode jungle cruise, pirates, the teacups, buzz lightyear, and the TTA with no wait. We had a bit of a wait when we used our Space Mountain fastpasses (maybe everyone's hitting that now as they know it'll be closed soon).

Jungle Cruise!

Pirates

Finally, we left around 11:30pm to get a good night's rest before Animal Kingdom EMH the next morning.

Thanks for the photos of the Kim Possible thing! I think we might have fun doing that when we're there.

Also, thanks for the pic of Citricos.

Thanks for being a guinea pig on the Kimpossible thing. I had no idea what that was.

Great shot of the Grand Floridian!

Do you know how many Kimpossible missions there are?

Is the Kim Possible thing good for adults going alone, or is it really just for kids?

Here are a couple of threads about some wdwfg posters who did the Adventure:

Scroll way down on this one

I'm sure admin will be along to give her report, too...

From everything I've read, everyone can have fun doing it. I'm excited to try it next time DH and I get to Orlando.

Yep!

And I really do think it sounds like fun. Seems like you can do as many or as few of the missions as you want, too. It's not like you're tied up all afternoon doing it.

Really fun for adults, too (at least nerds like us!). It's easy to do--just go to one of the Kim Possible stations (on the bridge between the World Showcase and Future World, at the International Gateway, Italy, Norway, and ... one other one I can't recall) and have them scan your ticket. You'll get a "fastpass" for the Adventure for a half hour to an hour later (maybe a bit more time as you'll be there during a busier week).

Go to the country indicated on your ticket at the correct time, and you're off! Do as many missions as you want. If you don't finish them all, I believe you can come back another day and ask a CM if you can start out at a mission you've not finished yet.

Have fun!
