Dining in the World: Second Stop - Narcoossee's

We rode the boat from MK to Grand Floridian this night, enjoying the cool breeze on the water and the short walk up the dock to Narcoossee's. We'd never eaten there before and were excited to try it. The recommendations here helped make that decision and we were NOT disappointed!! Truly one of our favorite meals of the trip - and we will definitely go back!!

We got a window seat - could see the Magic Kingdom and the monorail. Our mealtime was too early to see the fireworks - we actually went back to the park for Wishes after dinner! yay

We started with . . . CHEESE!!! I know that I seem obsessed . . . but I can't stress enough how GOOD these cheese plates are. You get a selection that goes from hard cheeses to soft, mild to strong. The accompaniments range from cracker or bread crisps to sweets like honey, raisins, nuts, membrillo (quince paste), marmalade, etc. It depends on the restaurant, but at Disney, it seems that these selections are all 'hits'. SO GOOD.

After we shared the cheese, we also shared appetizers: crab cakes and a peach salad. Both were good - crab cakes were quite tasty with a nice, subtle heat. The peach salad had promise, but the peaches just weren't quite 'peachy' or ripe enough to off-set the bitter greens. Later in the season, I bet that salad will ROCK, but this time . . . not quite a direct hit.

Our entrees were the Filet and Lobster (mine) and the crab crusted mahi mahi.(Kim) My steak was great - the lobster was sweet, and I - again - was so intent on my meal that I forgot to take a picture!! waiting But Kim had the fish and was blown away. She loves fish - will choose it over almost anything. This was flavorful, well seasoned, flaky but firm (like mahi mahi should be). Even the garlic smashed potatoes were amazing.

I have to say that by the time our waiter (His name was Chevy. Yep, like Chevy Chase) came with the dessert menus, we were not sure we could hold any more food. But then . . . the manager came by and visited with us and convinced us that we had to try the Baked Chocolate Mousse and the Strawberry Shortcake. Hey - YOLO!!! (You Only Live Once. My text savvy students taught me that.)
And let me tell you, these desserts did not disappoint!! The mousse was like baked chocolate chips. It was SO rich and SO decadent. . . but light, too. There was even a bit of bourbon-caramel sauce!! Again, we seriously were tempted to lick the bowl!! But for me - the strawberry shortcake was the true winner. It was light, creamy, and fresh; just sweet enough that you wanted it to never end. The chocolate twirls were a nice touch - and quite tasty, too!!

We left Narcoossee's quite full, but so delighted with our meal. Why had we never eaten here before??

YOU - Yes, You there . . . Get to Narcoossee's!!

Great review. Great pictures. Narcoossee's is one of my favorites. It's good to Chef Dennis (formerly Jiko) is keeping up the quality and tradition. If we could just get him to put the Key Lime Creme Brulee back on the menu.

Hmmmmm. Looks really good. It is amazing how far the food has come at Disney in the last 15 years. I keep meaning to go to the restaurants at GFR. I often send people to Citricos when I do a touring plan for them and they all rave about it. Will have to do Citricos, Narcoossees and Vick & Bert's the next visit if we can stay at that resort. Now I am thinking I better book a trip! clapping clapping clapping
