Woo-Hoo! I'm an expert! lol
First of all, I wasn't sure if you meant a Disney Cruise or another. So, we'll address both.
It is certainly possible, but you're going to pay 1.5 times the normal rate (roughly) for a single cabin no matter the cruise line. With Disney's already premium prices that can make it rather expensive.
I would make a suggestion though. With Disney's emphasis on family, you don't see too many single cruisers. I can only recall meeting one in my five Disney Cruises. Having said that, I'd have no problem whatsoever hopping on board the Magic or Wonder by myself and cruising if the situation warranted it.
If you want a lot of single travelers, you might want to consider another cruise line.

I'd try and locate a group that is taking a Disney cruise that has the same interests that you do and latch on to them. That way you have a ready made interest group to hang with, and there is a better possibility that others might be traveling single as well.
The only time I went on a cruise alone was in the mid-80's and it was with a travel group. I had a blast!

Are their any sites dedicated to finding "Cruising Groups"?

Not that I'm aware of, but there are groups all over the place for every conceivable sector. There was one a couple of months ago with much of the original cast of Battlestar Galactica. It looked pretty cool.

Good evening!
My two solo cruises were on the DCL Wonder Mousefest cruises in December, 2006 and December, 2007. Besides the single supplement, the main drawback to solo cruising is (if the ship isn't full) dining alone. But I had a blast each time, though I am not a huge fan of Nassau.
@cdub: while I'm not aware of any websites dedicated to finding "Cruising Groups", there is www.cruisemates.com which is a community of cruise enthusiasts.

I agree that cruise message boards should offer a great opportunity to meet up with other cruisers if you're going solo.
Or you can find folks on meetup.com--there MUST be a cruisers meetup near you.
A lot of cruise groups no longer try to match up singles as cabin mates due to liability. I guess they're afraid somebody will fall (get pushed) overboard.

That seems like it would be a weird dynamic anyway. I don't like staying with strangers in the best of times.

You and me both.

Agreed. I paid way too much for an apartment too many times just so I could be roommate-less. Cruising with a forced cabin-mate sounds like freshman year at college.

That deposit structure seems reasonable. I'm feeling a bit...tentative with my money these days, but $50ish doesn't sound out of the park. I think the ports make a huge difference to me.
If you're talking departure ports, all Disney ships leave from Canaveral. You can sail other cruise lines from all over the south, including Jacksonville, Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Mobile, New Orleans and Texas. Probably some others that don't come to mind.
