Disney Depression..How Do You Keep The Magic Alive..

I know, it's terrible. Here's me asking this question with 34 days till I enjoy my 13 day vacation inside the bubble..It was only this morning when my DW was making my breakfast ( Och ! the wee princess ) that she said " What are you going to do when the trip is all over " .. sad ..Now it's ok for you lucky people who stay in the states, but for us, it's a long and expensive trip, so I treasure my two yearly vacation..So god willing..Our next Disney experience will be 2016..So what do you do to overcome the depression .?...

I read all the trip reports that are posted and live through them until I can go back myself.

I just emailed my mom this morning and told her she needs to pick a date that her and her sisters can go so we can start planning. After the cruise in Feb, I will be in a lull and I won't know what to do. Guess I will mope around here and read TR of the lucky ones. waiting

Ok, so I'm kind of in the same boat WatchMaker, I'm heading to the world very, very soon for 2weeks and starting to think, what next? WELL, first things when we get back, book for next year 2015, plan, plan, plan. Keeping up to date with Disney podcasts and listening to our Disney music in the car. Looking at the photos on my desk and counting down the days. Also gives me a year to get my next Disney tattoo And of course reading this site.

Well, I do have a ritual for after we get home from each trip. First is writing the trip report, which depending on the length of the trip, I can drag out for about two weeks if I work really hard at it. After I'm done the TR, I make a photo book. Between picking back up on work commitments and things, it usually takes me about a month to do the book. Then I start researching the next trip (no matter how far away it is) and I faithfully listen to the DISunlpugged podcast. We even went to one of their Give Kids the World meets and I would readily do that again. I trade (or buy from ebay) the occasional pin or Disney tchotche. I draw and paint Disney pictures, read trip reports, etc. there are lots of ways to keep the magic alive!!

I'm using this trip to kick start travelling to my top 10 places in the world.

I was toying with going back to wdw next year, then considered Vegas. But I'm now onto disney cruises from Dover......

2 years sounds like a good gap though, time to take stock of what you've done and what you still want to try.

I think my blues come and go... I think about how blessed we are to be able to travel on vacations each year, sometimes twice - not always to WDW. I try to keep in perspective that some people save up and visit WDW once in their life for a blowout vacation and I've been lucky enough to have over 50 WDW vacations throughout my life.

I look at TR from several websites, talk about previous trips, help other people plan, etc. I also enjoy visiting our local Disney store...it always makes me feel better.

The longest I've had in between WDW trips was 6 years from high school graduation to college. Since then, we've gone almost every year. We do not have a WDW trip planned this year...as a matter of fact, my mom and dad arrived in WDW around 6PM tonight and are currently at Cali Grill eating dinner. (Yes, I wanted to go! New job, so could not take off) I live vicariously through others....I am toying with a Sept. 2015 trip! That makes me happy!

Well, like everyone says, plan another trip. I have rough ideas of what my ideal trip will be, which will probably be 2016-18 range. It's hard hearing and reading other's TRs but in the back of your mind, you know your time will come and you'll do anything in your power to make sure a future trip happens.

Plus I think it also helps to do the non-Disney related activities you really enjoy doing. It's better than moping all day how you're not in Disney right now. Being a super sports fan that supports many teams, the good thing for me is that when one season ends, I have other teams to follow. (i.e. When American football season ends, I have a hockey team and association football team to support during the winter.)

Other than that, I come here where I can just post about Disney freely without being mocked or ridiculed. Better to have a community who shares and understands your feelings than have none at all.

I read the TRs and plan trips. Most of them have never happened, but the planning and reading and all that fills some of the emptiness. . .

*sniff Sad

I've been in a huge Disney slump the past 6 months because I didn't have another trip I was planning. Not that I have a trip in February that's actively being planned I'm doing a lot better!

Write my trip report, read other people's trip reports, start planning the next trip, even if I have no idea when the next trip will be. Read blogs also, so I get ideas for that next trip. Watch YouTube videos. Watch Disney movies. Google Earth the parks just to see them.

Good morning!

I haven't posted in a long time because I haven't done Disney since December, 2007. My girlfriend Susie, who I met on April 19, 2013, loves Disney too but won't go on the rides. Restaurant and retail therapy is her thing, and if WDW had a Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW), she probably wouldn't leave.

I don't deal with Disney Depression because it's been so long that I either don't have it or don't acknowledge it.

Jim! Get thee to a Disney park!

Seriously. The GF can spend her days shopping at Downtown Disney or browsing the World Showcase at Epcot while you get to explore everything that is new and interesting inside the parks. Then you meet up for luscious lunches and delicious dinners. Everybody wins.

This is such an interesting perspective of the parks. When I first google mapped Epcot I was devastated! Seeing the tops of the buildings and them just being big squares were heartbreaking. Mexico is a big pyramid with a big box attached to it.

It's amazing how well they hide those things and make you feel totally immersed in the area you are in.

Honestly, seeing the warehouse-sized buildings behind the facades never really bothered me, I guess because I know what's inside requires a lot of space and inside the parks all I can see are the facades.

Nice! I suppose I could wear one of mine around the house, but it doesn't look nearly as cool as yours does.

I like googling to see what Disney things I can find and buy online. I think I end up doing more looking that buying because it's too dear to buy from US.

But I understand your depression, it's really too depressing to come here on the boards now when everyone is posting their trip reports and count downs, when I'm never ever going to get back to Walt Disney World sad .

I had the biggest Disney depression after our Disneymoon. It's taken me a year to stop sulking and start planning the next one. Now I have DLP planned for March, and WDW for January 2016. Just being able to countdown to those dates helps so much! I also watch excessive Disney movies, look through our old photos, and plan what I want to do next time I'm there. *sigh* it's difficult.
