Disneyquest no more...

Well I have to say I had my doubts as from next year, the UK Disney ultimate tickets no longer included disneyquest which set off alarm bells.

How do you feel about the impending closure?

I'm not really all that bothered, I went in for a few hours one day. It's a fun place to go when it's raining though so I wonder where we can hangout on rainy days in the future.

I've never been to DisneyQuest but NBA..... Blah..... I won't be checking this out. And it really doesn't fit the Sidney Springs plan in my opinion....

They should have put this in the ESPN Complex. Seems a much better fit...

I never cared too much for Disney Quest. I won't really miss it. But NBA Experience? I won't set foot in the place. It holds absolutely no interest for me. I agree with JMed. The ESPN complex seems like a much better place for it.

Boooooo! I like Disney Quest! sad
And boooo to an NBA experience. 10 years ago I'd have been happy because I liked NBA but now I couldn't care less.

I was reading comments on a Facebook thread.... may people are upset as this caters to a specific crowd and it's not family friendly. Not everyone likes basketball including my husband and I. My dad watches it occasionally but other than that not a lot of my family does. I can't even really think of any friends who are NBA fans. But then again, I live in the south and we all eat, sleep and breathe college football.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I'm not bothered about most of it, but the Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for Buccaneer Gold virtual reality ride was one of my favorites in all of WDW. I would go there just for that and do it several times. I will miss it so much.

I haven't been there in years. I liked it when it first opened but...I can live without it. I'm sure it will make room for some nice mall chain stores

I like DQ and we've(DW and me) have spent hours and hours in there over the past years, so kind of bummed that it's closing. My only real comment on this is that as much as we all love Disney, they seem to be closing more "attractions" and without opening new ones. I know DTD is under major construction, but the situation with HS really has me worried for the immediate few years ahead as far as visits.

I've never been to DQ so it really doesn't bother me. My friends and I tried to go once but we didn't realize you had to pay to get it and decided against it.

Not crazy about NBA so I probably won't go to the new place either. Now if it was NFL or NHL, I'd give it a shot.

DQ was fun once......I've only gone like 3 times. Last time I was there, it seemed very outdated for the most part. Yes they had cool games like guitar hero, fix it felix, fruit ninja and a few others but other then that I could care less. There were two different areas or more that were closed and just left there for people to stare at. I was hoping for an update not a completely new experience.

The problem with putting the NBA experience at ESPN Wide World of Sports is that for the most part, you have to buy a ticket into the complex and the complex I think is closed when there is nothing going on. I don't think you can just walk in. I don't think people want to pay like $15-$20 to get into the complex then still have to pay for dinner or whatever else they may charge for at the new place.

I completely agree, they seem to be closing a lot of stuff and not much due to open to replace it :-/

I liked Disneyquest but I didn't necessarily loved it. I loved being able to play all the cool arcade games but I kinda wished they incorporated more with the latest games and consoles. I would argue the old video game station that was at Innoventions could've and most definitely should've been moved to Disneyquest. But I would've preferred a makeover or renovation of Disneyquest as opposed to getting rid of it.

As for the NBA themed restaurant, well, I've always felt Downtown Disney needed a sports bar considering that ESPN Club at the Boardwalk is something some visitors may not know already existed or want to avoid the hassle of going there and back from a non-Epcot resort, especially during the primetime hours where most sports matches are played on TV or during the afternoon hours on Saturdays and Sundays when it's football season. I know there's some concern regarding the appeal of the NBA but it has a more global appeal than the NFL and NHL. Plus ESPN does have the NBA contract until the mid 2020s so they'll definitely be cross-promotions there. But I also understand the pessimism given that over at Uni, they tried having two sport specific restaurants and those didn't work and now, both are being taken down for one general sports theme restaurant and bar.

DisneyQuest was definitely in need of a major refurb when we were there last year, but I'm kind of bummed that it's closing for good. Here's a brief homage to the attractions that I will miss:

Unlimited classic arcade games - They had a Crazy Taxi machine and I seriously played Sea Wolf for an hour once
The Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster thing - It usually didn't work right, but it could have been fixed. What a fun concept
Virtual Pirates of the Caribbean - crazy good fun
Aladdin ride - terrible VR tech by today's standards, but I liked to visit this attraction because its designer, Randy Pausch, was one of the most inspirational people I never met. Even though the ride is ridiculously outdated, I'm kind of bummed out that Randy's ride won't be at Disney anymore.
Animation Academy - We have to go all the way to California now??

It's been a rotten 24 hours. I can't open a Disney news article without cringing right now. What's next? Shut down TSM? Peter Pan's Flight? Soarin'?

On the bright side, Disney seems so pleased with the Fantasyland Expansion and the resultant increase in attendance, that I'm sure there will be more big projects. At least that's what they say.

But Fantasyland Expansion took so long to build, I hope I live to see all the things coming down the pike; Rivers of Light, Pandora, the rumored Star Wars Land, etc.

But it does seem like they just keep on taking away things I love.

Agree with most everyone else. DQ has never been enough of a draw for me to get me over there (though I kept promising myself that I would someday...whoops), but NBA holds even less interest for me. Nothing about the change is getting me hot and bothered.
