Do Italians REALLY drink Beverly?

Imagineer..care to shed some light on this one?

I remember the first time I tricked Dave into drinking Beverly..oh memories! cool

I was thinking about that moment today..and it got me to thinking..do you really think Italians like Beverly? Occasionally I'll run across a random person who will actually like the taste of Beverly..but the general consencious seems to be a big fat yuck yuck ! Some of the best food in the entire world came from Italy..(hello, they invented ICE CREAM)..so I find it hard to believe that these lovely people with glorious taste buds actually drink that stuff like I drink Diet Coke.

I could see it being appealing if you'd grown up drinking it. Of course I just tried to have a grapefruit today and barely survived it, so maybe I'm not credible on this matter.

I feel qualified to address this.

Beverly is Coca-Cola's version of what's known in Italy as an "aperitivo". An aperitivo is meant to be drank before a meal, because Italians really believe that it aids with digestion. Another term for aperitivi (the plural of aperitivo) is "bitters". Even though it's an English word, it is still used in Italy. Beverly, made by Coca-Cola is only one brand of bitter. Other more popular ones would include Chino' by San Pellegrino, and Campari Soda by Campari. Some aperitivi contain alcohol, though very little, and others, like Beverly, contain none.

So, to answer your question, Italians do drink Beverly, and other drinks like it, but not as an all purpose drink. It's only drank as a pre-meal aperitivo.

I knew you'd be able to explain this one too me.
I understand it now..and that's really interesting! So it's not exactly a drink for refreshment..
