Does DVC have the same "peak" seasons?

Let me clarify, as I'm not talking about number of points on paper it costs to stay somewhere. I'm more concerned with how difficult it is to get booked at certain resorts (as mentioned in the Is DVC Worth It thread).

I would just assume that DVC owners would be more savvy as to the BEST times to visit WDW (January/Feb, May, October/Nov, beginning of December, etc.). If that theory is correct, do those times become the "peak" times when it's difficult to get into the resort you want, because everyone's already booked them up?

I was talking with a DVC owner over at WL once, who got me thinking about the same thing. They all know the secrets to the best time to come to WDW, so why wouldn't resorts book up more quickly during those times (F&W festival, early December, etc...)

DVC refers to value season as "Adventure Season." Obviously, this is when points are cheapest.

Adventure Season is the entire month of January and September as well as the first two weeks of December.

Next comes Choice Season, stays cost a few more points, but the difference isn't much. Choice is all of October, November 1-24, November 28-30 (so all of Nov, except Thanksgiving weekend) and December 15-23.

Then it's Dream Season, which jumps a bit higher. Dream Season is Feb 1-15, All of May, June 1-10 and August 16-31.

Magic Season is quite a bit more expensive and includes Feb 16-28, all of MArch, April 1-4, April 19-30, June 11-30, all of July, August 1-15 and Noember 25-17.

The most expensive season is Premier Season. April 5-18 and December 24-31.

It actually works out really well for us as we like January and September for travel and we can still enjoy the Christmas decorations if we go the beginning of December. And it's all for minimal point use!!!

Not sure why it is a "secret". DVC publishes the resort points clearly and you can tell when the cheaper seasons are. In fact, the 2010 points are out already on the DVC websites.

I guess I was wondering if "Adventure seasons" sell out the fastest, because DVC members know that that's the best time to go to Disney World.

I think I understand what you're asking bali, and it's a good question.

I don't think that it's the case though that DVC members are that tuned in as to when is the best time to go, and therefore book up all the best weeks early.

Even among DVC members, you're going to get people who have kids for example, and won't pull them from school, thereby forcing themselves to go at less than desirable times.

I think DVC membership represents a good cross section of Disney fans, so you'll still get those who'll want to go when someone else might think it's a bad time.

Thanks all!

Good point on members still having to decide whether to take their kids out of school or not.

That said, I still want a scientific study done mickey

IF we're understanding this question correctly, then DVC would notice the trend and the points charts would have shifted to reflect this LONG ago.

Well it could still be reflected by a steadiness in traffic. Say for example that of course some people are going to be forced by school and what not to go at particular times, those times are going to have to cost more points. Similarly Thanksgiving and Christmas are going to have to cost more points. The more interesting question is the relationship between the ratio of points to the ratio of cost, that is:

If during a low period a room costs 1/2 the money but 2/3 the points, that would indicate to me that they don't have to lower the point cost as much as they do the price, suggesting that because the DVC members are more Disney-Savvy, they know to make more use of off-peak times. You'd expect that January's going to be cheaper for everyone, but if it's not as "much cheap" for DVC members, that indicates they're more inclined to go at off times.

I understand where you're going with this, and there is probably some validity to your argument, but I don't have the strength to think it through! wheelchair
