DVC availability vs Regular availability

I was just wondering if DVC availability is the same as regular availability? What I mean is, if I go on the regular Disney booking site and it says, for example, there is a Theme Park View Studio available at BLT, does that mean there are some available when booking through DVC or are they completely separate and DVC could be full? Same goes for the other way around. If the regular site says there are no studios available does that mean the DVC ones are full too?

Great question Spook! Although I don't have an answer, I'm very interested in this too.

Afraid not Sad disney hold rooms back for themselves and that's what you will see available. Best bet would to be find a BLT owner and ask them to check for you x

So what I see available on the regular Disney site is different from what is actually available through DVC?

There are two separate inventories, DVC/point and Disney/cash, so one may be available while the other is not. If you use your points to book a cruise, the equivalent rooms from your home resort are transferred into cash/Disney inventory, to recoup the cost of the cruise. Here is an explanation I found on David's site:

Thanks Robyn!
We're going to call member services tonight and see if we can try and book or at least if they can tell us if there are any studios left. I'm getting very impatient waiting for our membership number waiting

Where do you think the hold up is for your number Spook? It is frustrating that it's taking so long.

I think it was getting the final documents. Our closing date was January 22 and we were less than a week to that with no documents so I emailed the Timeshare Store. We got the documents the next day ( not sure if it was a coincidence or not). They did tell us disney was behind in getting everything to the closing company due to the holidays and being short staffed. We closed January 27. They say it takes 14-28 days to get your number so were still in that time frame.
It is very frustrating because I really just want to get our October trip booked and I'm worried BLT will be full. Although in the end, it's just this trip that's affected. We'll be good to go for all the other ones so resale is still the better deal in my opinion mickey

Well hopefully you get your number very soon then. Sounds like you will. biggrin

As you may have read in our recent trip report, we were DVC members for about 22 hours and of course we had our membership cards in our hands within about 30 minutes! eek But of course it's a totally different ball game when you buy direct from Disney. But, wow, did that ever feel good having those cards. I still carry mine in my wallet. sad

I'm very interested in your experience, especially as fellow Canadians. I'm just so on the fence about DVC still. Trying to figure out if I want to tie into a contract where we must pay fees in US dollars each year in case our dollar tanks.. That's my main stumbling block. Bah! Cash

I was shocked when I read your TR about buying DVC and already had your cards. Apparently with resale, they send you a letter with your membership number, then a new member package, then your cards. I don't know why they can't just send the card since it clearly doesn't take long to make them sarcastic
