Eastern Seaboard Beach Crawl - Share your Opinions, Please

It looks like we'll be attending a wedding in the Baltimore area on June 30. We are thinking of breaking up the car trip northward by planning a Beach Crawl. We'd love to hear your suggestions for beaches from Ga to Maryland. We have some ideas, but would appreciate the input! Anyone want to weigh in?

Hilton Head & Charleston are both gorgeous.

Myrtle Beach is classic beach/touristy. laugh laugh laugh
Sunset Beach is about 30 mins north of Myrtle and my bf's parents have a condo there. Its a really nice beach that feels almost deserted because there aren't ever many people. But it's an easy drive down to Myrtle to do things.

And the Outer Banks in NC are absolutely amazing, but may be a bit out of your way.

Got to put my votes in for both Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach. Both great places!

The only one that I've been to is Virginia Beach, and it was full of obnoxious college kids.

Rehoboth Beach in Delaware used to be very nice (haven't been there in years) and isn't far from Baltimore. It's smaller and more laid back than the bigger beach towns, like...

Ocean City, Maryland, which is built up and touristy, but fun if you like that sort of thing (I haven't been there in decades because I don't). If you're a fan of crowded beaches and cheesy boardwalk entertainment, OC is a good choice, as is...

Virginia Beach, Virginia. IMO best time to go there is off-season. There's also a lot to do beyond the beach because it's an urban/suburban area.

The Outer Banks of North Carolina are lovely. Some parts are crowded and touristy (Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head), other parts (Duck and Corolla to the north and Hatteras to the south) are more laid-back and relaxed. Check out the lighthouses, the Wright Brothers memorial, and the Jockey's Ridge sand dunes.

Myrtle Beach is our usual beach destination. We stay in North Myrtle Beach, which is less crowded and quieter than MB proper. There's lots to do here, especially if you're a fan of cheesy entertainment venues like Medieval Times and concerts where people cover or even impersonate famous pop singers. They also have amusement parks and lots of shopping. If your tastes run more towards the artsy-fartsy, visit Brookgreen Gardens near Murrells Inlet south of MB.

And that is as far south as I've ever been on a beach vacation.

It's been suggested but I'm going to also say the Outer Banks. Another nice place (or was 30 years ago when I was there) is Seabrook Island SC. If I remember correctly, it was a private island. Not sure about today. If it is, I'm not sure if you can just drive on to the island for the day.

Thanks, everyone! Looks like we've settled on -

Charleston (we love, so we're definitely stopping in)
Outer Banks for a few days (out of the way, but I've never been to NC beaches, and I love lighthouses and ferries)
Virginia Beach and area (hubs is intrigued by their boardwalk.)

I will let you know how it goes. There are so many places that I'd love to have stopped, and thank you so much for the good suggestions. I had never heard of a few of the spots.
