Ever tie a 'Disney quickie' in with other trips?

Minds out of the gutter please...

I'm wondering if any of you ever work another trip to your advantage to get a Disney trip out of it?

For example, in 1994 there was a conference in Los Angeles which I either COULD go to... or didn't HAVE to go to. Because of the proximity to Disneyland, we chose to go and went a couple of days early. That was our first Disneyland trip.

I also can't remember all the times we've made a stop off on trips to Miami, the Keys and other places so that we could get in at least a day or so at WDW.

I used to have to go to a board meeting every winter in Miami, and I'd always stop off in Orlando for at least a day.

One of those years I managed to put in four short trips to WDW. I figured as long as someone else was paying the base costs, I might as well manipulate the trip to my advantage.

Association of Healthcare Philanthropy conference, baby! (I saved my company money by staying at Pop Century instead of the conference hotel...) Of course I had to stay for a week after the conference to take advantage of free dining Smile

That was one cheap trip. My company paid for the flight (as they would have had to do for the conference anyway), I got free dining for my stay after the conference, my annual pass was still good--all I had to pay for was a week of hotel.

Sheesh. Imagine if I'd been a DVC member. The whole thing would have been "free."

My mind WAS in the gutter for a second there! laugh

I completely agree--if they have to pay the costs anyway, and assuming you have some vacation time you can use, I wholly advocate fitting a trip in wherever you can. Someone mentioned on another thread that they couldn't pass through central Florida without visiting WDW and I think I agree. No way could I drive past those big purple gates and not stop in.

the best is when you can take your spouse too. get a free hotel and one of your tickets paid. saves you so much money.

You KNOW I'd be the one to bring this up.

Over a ten year period, I -

Co-ordinated three conventions at Walt Disney World (of course I attended them)
Held a board meeting at Disneyland (of course I attended)
Held a board meeting on DCL (of course I attended)
And did 2 or 3 separate familiarization trips to Anaheim and Orlando to "check out facilities". Coz I had ZERO knowledge of this place called Disney. biggrin

My 2 DisneyLand trips were both tacked onto conferences I had to attend in San Diego. One trip, I bought Max with me. The next year, my Dad was working with me & we spent my 33rd Birthday together in DL.

It really does!

And, Leota, how old was Max when you brought him with you to Disneyland?

They conveniently scheduled the conference to coincide with your birthday?

I would love to do this. I just need to convince my employer that there's something that needs doing in Florida!

2. Planned another cruise leaving out of Seattle, after the cruise we flew to SNA so I could go to Disneyland........
3. Software Convention in San Francisco,,, took DH,,,,flew to SNA so we could go to Disneyland before we flew home to NJ.

That all sounds within reason! laugh Welcome to the Boards--do you have some expertise with DLP? Would love to hear more about it.

We have no expertise with DLP, but we did LOVE it. Ironically we stayed in the Hotel New York, and we live in New Jersey. We walked thru DTD to the park each day. The architecture is wonderful along with the landscaping. Crowd control is a little hard to handle. The don't que in Europe unless there is a rope to keep the back. If there is no rope they push you and breath on your neck until you move ....I had to put my backpack on my back so that I would not be touched by strangers in the dark ride q's.......Pirates especially.
We are two seniors 60+, so we loved walking around, and admiring all the designs and colors of the flowers. The Eurostar train station is right between DLP and DTD. It was fun to roll our bags to the station and get on the chunnel train.

I'm a little creeped out by the line description. Iwas sort of keen to check out DLP, but I'm not sure I want to be jostled in the dark. Was it particularly busy when you were there?

It was the end of May and it was busy... We could only get Hotel NY, and we wanted the Disneyland Hotel. Lots of locals bring their lunch to the parks, they don't buy the food inside the parks. CM's said that was a local custom, and also another local custom is to sell wine & beer in the Magic Kingdom.

Wow, annual passholders bringing their lunch to the park. That means Disney made roughly $0 on that trip. I'm sure they would love to discourage that. Did you see a lot of that, or just hear about it from the CM?
