Excited About Renting a Camera

yay I've decided to rent a camera for our June vacation! yay

After enjoying my time with the Nikon I borrowed on our last vacation I decided that I would rent one for this vacation. I'm not going too fancy because I still want to have point and shoot use since I won't have any time to fiddle around with it before the trip. I'm *really* looking forward to playing with this.

I decided to go with the Nikon D5000 with a Nikon 18 - 200mm Zoom Lens. Has anyone used one of these? Do you have any basic tips or tricks with it that I should keep in mind?

I'm going to get an extra SD card for it, do you guys think I should rent an extra battery too? My thought is yes but I'm not sure. It's only another $18 so it's not going to break the budget.

I use cheap cameras so I can't comment on the Nikon. But I always carry either a spare battery or an extra camera. Too many times watching a parade or fireworks with dead camera batteries after a day of shooting.

The memory cards are so cheap, it makes sense to just buy your own.

that is a good lens, covers a nice range
the d5000 shoots video as well, but that will eat battery and memory card life real quick

i haven't used the 5000 personally, but if you can get the camera a day early pratice with it, shoot everything, light and dark
charge the battery every night, i shoot 400-500 pics a day and still have battery left at the end, but i charge it every night

Unfortunately I won't be able to get the camera early at all. I like the smaller SD card idea. I may use that one, and I have decided to get the extra battery to run amuck as much as possible!.
