First DVC Price Hike of 2013

Effective March 20, 2013, the base price for Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas and Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas will increase from $140 to $145 per point.

Up up up go the prices! eek It never ceases to amaze me how fast the price of a DVC point has been raising over the past two years. It seems like every time we turn around it's going up. This hike announcement comes just 6 weeks after the last increase in December (there had also been one in July 2012). These rates will bring the currently for sale resorts closer to what will be offered at the Grand Floridian property.

It's a good reason not to wait to make your DVC purchase!

Yikes! I definitely got a DEAL. I got my pts for less than half of that! Granted, buying resale does not give you the Disney Adventure stuff, nor the cruises, but all I wanted were the DVC resorts anyway. So it made sense for me. I just hope our annual costs do not go out the roof. mickey

Oh goodness...I hope Disney doesn't execute their ROFR on our SSR contract being that the seller accepted $58/pt. Fingers crossed! crossfingers

When I first looked at DVC back in the 90's it was about $80 a point through Disney.

I bought my AKL points through Disney in 2008 and the base price then was $112. So, just five years later and it's gone up $33 a point, which would have been an additional $5,280. That much more money and fewer years on the contract, yowza! So glad that I bought when I did!

I bought at SSR and paid $89/point back then.

We have a total of 340 right now, and considering that we always bank points into our next use year, I don't think we have any plans on adding any more. It is just right for our usage pattern, which includes the occasional cruise.

I look forward to getting to that point. Right now I'm always borrowing from a year ahead. I think I need about 250 to even us out and we have 185. It's going to be quite awhile before I can add on again though.

Was curious, so I did some research on the initial price at each resort(prices do not include any purchase discounts). May not be 100% accurate, but should be close:

1991 - OKW - $51
1995 - VB - $62.75
1995 - HHI - $62.75
1996 - BWV - $62.75
2000 - VWL - $67
2002 - BCV - $75
2003 - SSR - $89
2007 - AKV - $101
2009 - BLT - $112
2009 - VGC - $112
2011 - Aulani - $120

Wonder how this compares to rack rate increases over the same period.

Well I bought my first 200 points (sight unseen) back in 1993, and my wife thought I was crazy. After visiting the "Vacation Club" (now Old Key West), I purchased 390 additional pts (1994/1995), for a grand total of 590 pts. We've used these pts for vacations at WDW, Vero Beach, , overseas (with RCI), and Disney cruises to the Bahamas, Mediterranean and Northern Europe. It's been great for us, and even though we did not purchase this as investment, it sure turned out that way. We have not regretted for one minute our purchase! We are a true Disney family that is constantly planning new adventures, but at today's prices, I guess we are set for life.

stars Hello Emilio! Welcome to the forums! stars

My kids are pretty sold as well. They're 18/19 so not quite ready to buy their own points, but it's in their plan!

Hi Kristen, and thanks for all your thought producing forum inputs. wrt DVC, I have been amazed at what I've been able to see and do with my DVC points! As I mentioned earlier, I did not purchase it (DVC) as an investment, we still don't view it as such. It's our family vacation home, where we go when we need to smile, a break from the rat race, just relax in a place where we are comfortable, and know it better than any where else on earth Smile . I still enjoy watching my grown daughters act as teenagers, just having fun! And what's amazing, they keep converting their young adults friends to Disney fans, one at a time! Thanks again, and keep up the great job.
