Frozen!

Ok maybe I'm just not seeing it because I'm kind of tired and easily distractible, but I don't see a topic on Frozen!

So...who else is going today?!!

I work until 9:00, but luckily less than a mile from the theater, so we are catching a 9:40 show after work. Super excited about kicking of vacation with a brand new Disney movie!!

Ok since MeganLeigh broke the seal, I'll throw out an opinion, but no plot spoilers--promise!

I liked it, but I think the "best movie since Lion King" is overhype. The animation is beautiful, the story is engaging, the characters are interesting. Now, the weaknesses - The development of the villain is weak (the creation of conflict, tension, and suspense is fine, but there's something missing in the creation of the actual villain) and the tempo of the movie (both in terms of plot development and music) becomes somewhat erratic at points. I liked it, but other movies have been released since The Lion King that top Frozen by leaps and bounds for me - Hunchback, Mulan, Tangled, Wreck-It-Ralph. Post Lion King, I would rank it above Pocahontas, Tarzan, Atlantis, Emperor's New Grove, and Princess and the Frog - once again, for me. If I had both movies sitting on the shelf to watch, I would pick Frozen over Lion King 9 times out of 10, but I *gasp* actually don't really like Lion King.

Saw Catching Fire tonight. I am a fan of the books. We have to wait two years before the series is complete.

What'd you think of it, Joann? I'm a fan of the books but was pretty meh about the first movie.

I thought it was good. I'm curious to see how they break up the last book into two movies.

Can't wait to see Frozen so I can compare notes with you guys! Looking forward to it and Mr. banks!!

VelcroPooh

Saw it Friday and loved it! I agree that I don't think it ranks up there with Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, but I would place it above many. I absolutely loved the musical score and now I want the soundtrack. Annnnddd....I have new favorite princesses now Smile

VelcroPooh

Oh and to not give anything away either, I also LOVED the cartoon short before the movie too!

LOVED IT! Great message for girls and especially sisters. My daughter was singing "Let It Go" for the rest of the night.......Indina Menzel should get the Oscar for that song. Her vocals were out of this world amazing! Bring tissues bc this story pulls at the hearstrings as only Disney can.

I hope this isn't a spoiler, but did anyone else notice Rapunzel and Flynn at the coronation?

No......ugh! Will have to see again to spot that. Good catch! How cool is that?

No, I missed it! Disney hides things in their movies all the time so doesn't surprise me.

I can't wait to see Saving Mr. Banks. It doesn't come out here until the 20th, so it will probably be a couple of weeks before I get to go.

This is, I would say, the best Disney Animation Studios movie since "Tangled". I agree that the villains are not well-developed, and the motive is also rather thin. I also think that it seemed as if they rushed through the ending where the queen discovered how to make it all better. That was a bit lame.

But the story and visuals leading up to that were all spectacular. I certainly was engrossed in the movie.

BTW, please make sure you see this in 3D, because the short movie that precedes "Frozen" alone is worth paying for! "Get A Horse", in my humble opinion, has the BEST and most effective use of 3D effects that I've ever seen. Literally, my jaw dropped in amazement at what I was seeing on the screen, or was it on the stage? I wished it could have gone on and on, because I wanted to see a lot more.

Zz.

Zz, thanks for the heads up on the 3D. I'm considering going again and we did 2D the first time. I will say that despite my lukewarm initial endorsement, I have grown to love some of the music in this movie. "Let it go" and "For the first time in Forever" have made their way onto my workout playlist and they are my current addiction Smile

Thanks. I saw it in 2D too and thinking about going back. I'll definitely check out the 3D if I do.
