Got our tickets for Alice in Wonderland!!

We're all ready to go. Got our tickets at the XD 3D Theater for Saturday morning. Can't wait to let you all know what we thought of the film!

Who else is going this weekend?

We're going Saturday night (9.30pm) so given the time difference, we should be going in just as you're coming out.

DEFINITELY looking forward to what you guys have to say. I think we'll probably go on Sunday, and let the crowds have Friday and Saturday to themselves!

Tony -- has there been a big hub bub about the various theaters boycotting the film over there?

Yep, Odeon cinema's were refusing to show it until a few days ago, something to do with the planned delay from cinema release to DVD release. They eventually realised how much trade they were going to lose and caved in.

We will be seeing it during the 1:30 pm 3D show this Saturday. Last count, there will be 15 of us. And after that, we are planning on going out for sushi.

We're probably going on Saturday as well, but we're not as organized as you, Tony, and Zapperz sad I'd better get online and buy some tickets, eh? I imagine the theaters are going to be selling out on this one!

Tony, I was reading about the "theater wars" over the DVD release. Glad Odeon finally came to their senses .

I don't have a good feel for how much "buzz" there is around this. It's not on par with a Harry Potter I wouldn't think. Anyone else have a sense?

I've been a little put off by the reviews. Tim Burton movies are always a bit hot-or-miss and I'm not sure which one this one is.

We're back from the show! Heading out to get dinner now, but I can't wait to chat about it with you guys when we return. Tony and Zapperz, what'd you think?

We loved it. Matt Lucas as the Tweedle's was really funny, he almost didn't need any CGI to play the parts. The story is a bit predictable but very well told.

They could have made more of the 3D effects, after a while I forgot I was watching a 3D movie, maybe that was the intention though and I could have been expecting too much after the way 3D effects are used in the parks.

Now "bring me a pig".

Oh, and did anyone else notice the name of the boat in the final scene... nice touch I thought, shame it will go over the head of 99% of those that watch the film.

I did. I thought that was both a great addition to the film, and a great plug for Disney Cruise line laugh

I also agree that more could have been done with the 3D, though the raindrops on the mushrooms in the first Absalom scene was incredible. You can tell that he's just a genius when it comes to visual delight.

Also, we were impressed that you couldn't really tell when the CGI ended and the humans began. This is the first film where the crossovers were seamless to me.

Tony, I agree about the 3D effects. But I'm not sure that more effects would have made it seem more "cartoon-y"...

I saw the name on the boat as well -- very cool!

I actually wish there was MORE of the film. I thought the bits and pieces of the original story mixed into this "sequel" seemed odd.

I saw it and I liked it a lot - Jason, not so much. We didn't see it in 3D and I didn't feel like I was missing anything

I was pleasantly surprised, but I had low expectations. It wasn't very "Alice in Wonderland"-y. The characters all had pretty clear motivations and there wasn't that much "weirdness." That being said I thought it was a pretty fun movie and the effects were amazing. Except for the fight scene, I completely forgot that the CG characters weren't actually there interacting with people. I think it helped that I wasn't expecting it to be good, but overall I give it a positive rating.

Also, I don't think seeing it without 3-D is missing anything.
