Hawaii?

So I'm planning a honeymoon. I always thought I'd go to Disney but the fiance doesn't want to since we were there this summer....he likes to go every other year. He'd like to go to Hawaii. We are planning to hit Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. I'm wondering if anyone has been and has recommendations for hotels, restaurants, or excursions. I don't like the beach and he loves it so we want to make sure we have an equal balance of active and then beach bumn relaxation! Thanks for your ideas in advance!

I have a friend who lives there, and I can ask her for some advice. When are you going?

I know Brad's been to Kauai and loved it -- he'll give you lots of good information!

Also, don't forget that Aulani is on Oahu, so you might be able to mix in a little Disney after all depending on your timing! Wink

When's the trip?

So much to say about Kauai! I think several of us have been. Do you like hiking? Even if you don't like beaches there are tons of AMAZING hikes in Kauai. I can give you a bunch of restaurants you have to try, but the #1 must-try is Bar Acuda on the North shore. We ate there four times I think! I will say that if you're a go-go-go nightlife lover, Kauai might not be the island for you, but if you like relaxing, hiking, seeing BEAUTIFUL scenery it's a wonderland. Trying to get back as soon as I can! Let me know what kind of stuff you like and I'll tell you my favorites!

Sounds fun! I love hiking and scenery and Lou loves nice beaches so we are looking forward to Kauai. One of us is the energizer bunny on vacations and the other a sloth so we figured this will give us a nice mix of both. I jotted down that restaurant already, Brad. Thanks so much! We are going a bit nuts in Maui so Kauai will be our secenery/relxing aspect of the trip.

North Shore of the big island is AMAZING. If you want to relax, it is perfect.

I've never been so I'll just have to look lustfully at your plans..ahh..

Anyway, it's smart not to a Disney honeymoon! We did it and we had lots of fun BUT I wish we had gone somewhere we could relax! I was so exhausted!

I agree with Brad that Kauai is wonderful. Big Island would be my second pick to try.

Hi,

I've never been to Hawai'i but would love to go. My mother went twice while I went to Canada.

One of the great things about Kauai was that we got to have a vacation where we were totally relaxed, but still didn't feel slothful. We went on some MASSIVE hikes and did a lot of really fun stuff but we never felt rushed or stressed. We just kind of did whatever we felt like, but so many of the activities are easy to do whenever you feel like that there was always an activity we could just pick up and run with. A few things required some planning, but for the most part we just played it by ear.

Do you dislike the water as much as you dislike the beaches? There are some fun water-borne activities.

I don't go in the ocean at all. I'll get in a kayak but I won't get directly into the ocean. Terrified!

But you'll kayak in the ocean? We had a lot of fun with that in Kauai. It was like surfing but without having to stand up.

I didn't think there were that many places to kayak in Kauai.

We had a lot of fun kayaking in the ocean. There are a couple of navigable rivers as well that are pretty fun. I kept getting blisters from the paddle though, so we didn't do it as much as we might have liked.

The one we picked is only a 2 mile river kayak trip. Then a bit of a rainforest hike and then a zipline trip to a fresh water pool. I'm super excited!

Have you decided how long you're staying on Oahu?

3 days on Oahu
5 days on Maui
5 day on Kauai

We live near a big city so we wanted to skip the city areas and do something tropical. My friends have all loved Kauai the most for it's beauty and Maui's activities. Here's what we planned so far...

Oahu- Pearl Harbor tour and picnic
Maui- Laua & Haleakala sunrise and bike ride down the volcano. Driving to Hana.
Kauai- zipline- hike-kayak tour http://www.outfitterskauai.com/kipu-zipline-safari.html
We may also go visit Waimea canyon.

We have about 4 days of activities and the rest are days to hit the pool and beach.
Now we are working on reservations for dinner!

I've never done a ZipLine but I bet I'd love it. I may need to lose some weight first though. I saw a episode of some show where they had to put a parachute on the back of the fat guy because he would go too fast on the ZipLine. I don't want to be the parachute guy.
