With Heavy Heart We Say Goodbye To The Grand Floridian's Doorman, Richard

It is with heavy heart today that I bring sad news. Richard, charming, friendly doorman at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort has passed away. I have heard that complications from pneumonia is the cause.

Richard was always friendly, his tiny frame and oversized suit a veritable icon of the Grand Floridian. It was always a joy to talk with him. He welcomed millions through the doors of Disney's flagship resort, escorted and calmed countless brides with his gracious charm. In an interview with him once he said that even at his advanced age he only ever wanted to be "one of the boys."

I am so glad that I took special time out of my last stay at the Grand Floridian to stop and talk with him, then making sure to get a picture. His magic will always be carried in my heart.

He was such a lovel person and he reminded me a little bit of my grandfather. Thankfully, it sounds like his passing was relatively peaceful and that he had his family by his side. I'll miss the particular charm he brought to GF and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have met him. Rest peacefully, Richard.
