How do you like San Angel Inn?

I've had both good and bad experiences at San Angel Inn in Mexico, but I'm wondering how you guys like it. If there's a "thumbs up" vibe here, we might book it again. Help us choose!

I voted to "book it." I think that restaurant can get a bad rap. I've experienced slow service there, but sometimes that's a blessing in Disney World, where everyone's trying to turn tables over so fast that you sometimes feel rushed. I think the food is good -- not fantastic, but enjoyable. The atmosphere is lovely, and if you get a table by the water it can be very romantic.

I dislike the food. They could at least NOT serve a TexMex fare, but I suppose that is way to much to ask to get some form of an authentic Mexican food.

I actually contend the opposite. I dislike the food because it's NOT TexMex. Or at least not any good TexMex. They serve Tostitos for the chips for Pete's sake. That being said I do enjoy the atmosphere.

I really don't mind the place, and we try to eat there once every few years. We like the entertainment and the atmosphere, and we wouldn't know good tex-mex or mexican if it bit us, so we're perfectly happy with the food Wink

If it had even half-way decent food I'd do it every trip. I love going on the Three Caballeros, or whatever and I think it's a really fun pavilion. But I'm with Brad that if you think that's good Tex-Mex, you need to come down here and have some real Tex-Mex.

Surprised that the sentiment runs against this place here. It seems popular in other groups of Disney Fans.

It just shows that we have tastes, and they don't! Smile

Haven't eaten there yet. I have been avoiding it because I am totally grossed out by the pictures of the food that is served there. There are restaurants on Disney property where the chefs need to learn how important presentation is. This is one of them.

I can't remember even SEEING any pictures of anything except margaritas laugh I've never had BAD food at this restaurant (do they really serve tostitos?), but I can see why some folks might consider it to be "not as authentic" as they'd like.

Isn't it run by a family that runs restaurants in Mexico City?

I really want to give it another try next visit! Anyone else try it lately?

Great review! I really like the Christmas decor pics.

We'll have to try it again.

We're snobby about our Mexican food here in Texas so I'm a hard sell, but we tried it again recently and it was much better than my previous trip.

Do you remember what you got?

I would consider getting the two appetizers they talk about in that review as a meal.

I always give the vote that if it interest you..go for it!
Reviews are reviews..and while they may be helpful sometimes you just got to go with your gut and try it for yourself!

I've never been there but I am huge fan of Cantina de San Angel..and I really really want to try La Hacienda..or whatever it's called.

I've never eaten there, but I've always wanted to! Maybe I've just taken one too many of the little Mexico boat rides...but gosh, it smells good when you're meandering through!

We had the tostadas mentioned in that post and I highly recommend them. They were my favorite part of the meal. Also had the ribeye tacos and they were very good as well.

The Mole is AMAZING, as well as the chili con polemo (sp?) I had to find the recipe when we got home to make it for my DH

Is that from the current menu? I know they changed some of it somewhat recently.

The biggest problem with them was that they were a little hard to eat. They had large chunks of meat and the (shallots if I remember correctly), were completely intact and so you'd pull the whole thing out when you took a bite. Good taste though.

Clearly a knife and fork taco. Tasty, but all wrong.

Authenticity might have gone out the window before this point. But as long as it's yummy and fairly resembles Mexican...? (Uh oh, I might be part of the problem.)

You ARE the problem..haha. Seriously I love Mexican food..but seriously to me anything with salsa counts as Mexican. For example, tonight I threw black beans, salsa & Monterrey jack in a pot & called it queso dip.
It was delicious.

Sounds delish actually! And DH love Chevy's, so clearly, we're not all about authenticity...although we also just bought Rick Bayless's book. There's a season for everything, I guess.
