I'm So Excited, and I Just Can't Hide It!!!

Yesterday was a big day for me...I made the final payment to the TA for our WDW trip in September!!!
yay yay yay

We'll be headed to the world Sept 17th to Sept 22!

First...a little background. Hubby and I went to WDW for our honeymoon way back in Sept 1993. Loved it! In May 2000, we decided to do a trip with his family. Me, Hubby, Hubby's mom, Hubby's 2nd youngest brother's (now ex-)wife and her 7 year old daughter (Niece #1), Hubby's youngest brother and his 6 year old daughter (Niece #2), Hubby's Sister and her 6 year old daughter (Niece #3). The girls were at such a great age to fully enjoy what WDW had to offer. We had such a blast that trip that we decided to do Disney every 7 years. Unfortunately, when we were supposed to do our next family trip in 2007, no one in Hubby's family could afford a vacation. So we went by ourselves...and still had a blast! Well...here we are 7 years later. We started planning our family trip around Thanksgiving last year. Niece #3 went and married a total loser and can't afford/doesn't want to go. (Hasn't been married a year yet and already talking divorce...but that's another story.) Niece #2 has a boyfriend (at the time he was a boyfriend, now he's a fiance!) that goes to school year-round. The only time he has off is in June. Hubby & I don't want to do Disney during the peak summer season. That's why we travel in Sept. The Niece #1 and her fiance wanted to go with Niece #2. Mom & Niece #2's dad wanted to go with the girls. Can't blame them. Niece #2's dad backed out about 2 months ago. Mom also backed out because she didn't want to be a 5th wheel. So Niece #2 & #3 are there now with their fiances enjoying every minute. I told them I want a complete trip report when they get back.

Anyway, at the end of December, we went to the TA and booked our trip- 5 nights at the Wilderness Lodge, Woods View Room, 4-day Park Hopper Tickets (we're going to Universal for 1 full day and figured we'd save a little money by getting Disney tix for 1 less day), and 5-day Deluxe Dining Plan. The trip had to be paid off by June 17th. I calculated that $300 every payday had to go towards our Disney Vacation. Wow! That's a big chunk of change, but we made it work. Every payday I was at the TA giving her $300. About a month later I get an email with a room discount or free dining PIN. I called the TA. She crunched the number. The discount for Wilderness Lodge was 35%, which would save us $635. That was a better deal than the free dining since it was only Standard Dining and we'd have to pay to upgrade to Deluxe. She called Disney and got my 35% discount applied to our reservation! (I love travel agents! muchlove ) This also lowered my payment to $250 every payday. And yesterday I paid it off!!!

We'll be flying out of Atlantic City on Spirit Air. We normally fly out of Philadelphia, but my husband's a member of Spirit's $9 fare club. Even with having to pay for checked bags, carry-on bags and seats, we still saved about $200 each over any flight out of Philly. We'll be spending the night before at Harrah's casino in Atlantic City. We both have their Total Rewards card, so our room is free, but any money we saved on airfare will probably be lost on gambling in the casino. Who knows though...we just might win some extra spending money. crossfingers (but I doubt it). I rationalize it by telling myself that my vacation is starting when I get to Atlantic City instead of when I get to Disney, 16 hours sooner.

Since Hubby likes to golf, we'll be renting a car instead of using DME. Plus, like I said, we're going to Universal for a day. The car will come in handy for that also.

We don't do a whole lot of pre-planning so I don't know what parks we'll go to on which days. The only exception to that is Universal. We're going there on Fri, Sept. 19th.

Our dinner reservations are as follows:

Wed, Sept. 17- California Grill. Hoping to catch Wishes while we're there.
Thur, Sept. 18- Victoria & Albert's. This is our actual 21st anniversary.
Fri, Sept. 19- I have no clue where we'll be eating on this day.
Sat, Sept, 20- Be Our Guest
Sun, Sept. 21- Yachtsman Steakhouse

That's all I have planned for now. I'll add to the report when more plans are made.

So Saturday was the 60 day mark for me!!!! yay yay yay clapping clapping clapping

To be honest, I don't know how you people do it. It was so hard for me to make FP+ selections because I really don't plan my vacations. I just let them happen. However, since I wanted to at least make sure I got some kind of Fast Pass, I went ahead and booked them. I'm guessing most of them will change, but here's the itinerary so far:

Tuesday, Sept. 16th

Drive to Atlantic City after work. It's about an hour and half drive, but considering flying out of AC saved us $400 over flying out of Philadelphia, which is only 40 minutes away, it's well worth it. Check into Harrah's (free room yay ). Eat dinner at The Steakhouse (*sarcasm* what a clever name for a restaurant) and do some gambling. (There goes that $400 we saved on airfare. silly )

Wednesday, Sept. 17th

Wake up around 5:30am to allow plenty of time to check in at the airport for our 8:30am flight. It only takes about 30 minutes to get to the airport from the hotel, but Spirit's check in process is ridiculous. It's a very small airport with only 10 gates, and I think Spirit is the only airline that flies out of there. But's Spirit's schedules have all their flights leaving within an hour of each other so everyone arrives at the airport at the same time. They'll hold up the line and call everyone boarding the next scheduled flight to the front of the line so they can check all of them in and get them to their gate on time. This results in the people waiting for the next flight to be delayed so they hold up the line and call everyone boarding that flight to the front. It's a vicious circle caused by incompetent scheduling. Speaking of scheduling, my flight has been changed 3 times already. It was originally scheduled to leave at 7:30am. Four months after we booked, it was changed to leave at 8:30am. Two months later, it was changed to 8:00am. This past weekend, it was changed back to 8:30am. confused

We're scheduled to arrive at MCO at 10:51am, but who knows! After waiting for luggage and picking up the rental car, I expect to be at Wilderness Lodge around 1:00pm or 1:30pm. I don't expect the room to be ready so it's off to the Magic Kingdom we go. Lunch will be eaten somewhere. Don't know where. We have FP+ as follows:

12:25-1:25 Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (I full expect not to use this one)
2:25-3:25 Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
4:00-5:00 Space Mountain

Head back to WL to check in, shower and change then it's off to the Contemporary for dinner at California Grill at 6:55pm. Hoping to catch Wishes from Cali Grill, then it's off to Epcot for Extra Magic Hours from 9:00-11:00.

Thursday, Sept. 18th

Hubby has a tee time at 7:08am at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course. I shall probably head over to Epcot. I may meet up with Old Tink depending on her availability. I expect hubby to be done golfing and at the park by 1:30 or so. Lunch will be eaten somewhere. Don't know where. Fast Passes are:

1:30-2:30 Mission Space (This will most likely change. I only picked it because I had to pick 3)
2:35-3:35 Test Track
4:25-5:25 Maelstrom

Then it's back to the room to shower and change and then head to the Grand Floridian for our 21st Anniversary dinner at Victoria & Albert's. Nothing planned after dinner, but I'm sure some sort of adult beverage will be consumed somewhere.

Friday, Sept 19th

It's off to Universal Studios we go. Don't know about the hubby, but I plan on spending most of my day in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. Ok, ok, I might leave those sections and go on some other roller coaster. We'll see. No plans for dinner. We'll just "wing it" that day.

Saturday, Sept 20th

Today we're visiting the dark, mysterious world of Animal Kingdom. First stop, Expedition Everest. Wander, wander, wander...lunch (don't know where...you get the idea). Fast passes:

11:40-12:40 Expedition Everest (yes, we will probably go on this ride 3 or 4 times)
3:30-4:30 Primeval Whirl (simply because it's a roller coaster)
4:30-5:30 Dinosaur

Back to WL, shower, change. Off to MK for dinner at Be Our Guest. Can't wait to try the Grey Stuff. After dinner, it's roam around MK for EMH from 11:00pm-1:00am

Sunday, Sept. 21st

Hubby's golfing at Orange County National GC in the morning. I will probably either go to MK to ride the Haunted Mansion a couple times or go to Hollywood Studios. I expect to meet hubby at HS around 2:30 or 3:00. Lunch- somewhere. Fast passes:

9:30-10:30 Star Tours (Either I will go on this by myself, or it will be changed for something else)
2:30-3:30 Rock N Roller Coaster
4:05-5:05 Tower of Terror

After showering and changing we will be headed to the Yachtsman Grill for dinner. Perhaps going to the Boardwalk after dinner before a nightcap or 2 then turning in to rest up for our flight home on Monday.

DISCLAIMER: All schedules are subject to change, but that's the way it stand for now.

Sounds like a great trip! I recommend utilizing the single rider line at Expedition Everest. Most times it's 10 minutes or less. I rode it once eight times in a row because the single rider line was only 5 minutes.

Thanks for the tip, Mandy. awesome We never really thought about using the single rider line when we're together, but I'll definitely use it when he's golfing.

Your trip looks fabulous, though I'm not sure if you're mistaken or it was just a typo but California Grill is at the Contemporary so don't hop on a boat to Grand Floridian or you may miss your ressie! If you're still looking for a good option for AK lunch I highly recommend Yak & Yeti TS. It is so yummy and it's usually super easy to get a reservation. When we were there in October, we should up an hour before our ADR and asked if we could get in early and it was absolutely no problem...in fact the restaurant was practically empty! Have a great trip! awesome

Sounds like a great trip! We tour the same way as you, basically just winging it so I'll probably do what you do and make FP+'s but not be too concerned if I have to change them the day of. You're going to have so much fun!! yay

Thanks, Allie. It was just a typo. I was looking at my spreadsheet with our schedule, and I guess I just looked at the wrong line when I was typing that. *Goes to change Grand Floridian to Contemporary* There...all fixed now.

You're welcome! I prefer using the single rider line over the standbye and fastpass for it.
