A very limited amount of time, yes. I enjoyed the carnival-style rides and am a car nut, so it was worth part of an evening for me.

I just don't know if I can bring myself to do a Disney resort that doesn't have parks near by... It would seem so strange!

If you really want to go to the parks they are only about 2 hours away.
The resort is real nice. Lots of hidden Mickeys to keep you entertained.

Really? Only 2 hours? That's worth it if you need a beach fix and a park fix Staying there also might force you to slow down a little bit on your vacation, but still get the Disney quality you're used to.

My geography is all messed up. I had no idea it was that close either.

So it's worth the time to get there, but don't budget a day around it, eh?

I certainly wouldn't plan to spend a whole day there. It is fun if you're looking for something different, but I'd say it's more of a novelty.

I don't think Old Town Orlando is worth a whole day. Maybe an afternoon or an evening when things "heat up," but it'll get old if you're there for a full day ;-) IMHO!

Good advice -- I think it's worth a trip over to see at least once.

Yes only 2 hours and IMO definetely worth a visit at least once in your lifetime.
Obviously I've been a few times since I live in Florida.

I don't think Old Town is even worth visiting anymore. The area gets a bit rough at times.

I think a trip to Celebration would be a better experience.

Celebration is high on my list of never-beens that I'd like to do. Any activities you recommend? MouseTraveler recommended a diner there.

Brad,
You'll need a car to visit Celebration. It is something of a novelty for us suburbanites. It's such a cute town with a quaint small town feel to it.
I stopped to use the post office and we parked in the downtown area.
They have a little Christmas shop and we did some shopping, then we walked around the town center and had ice cream in a nice ice cream shop. We were going to go to the movies as they have a little theater but it was too early for a movie. We then drove around the neighborhood looking at the cute houses. It was Halloween and everyone decorated their homes for the season. There are a few little restaurants that looked interesting. I think one of them was a sushi place, a little cafe and maybe a pizza shop. I really don't remember anything in particular that stood out. THey did have some kind of fair going on in the park near the theatre. It's really a very picturesque place. Disney picture perfect if you know what I mean. I think you'd enjoy a few hours there.

Sounds like a really nice afternoon. Are the movies first-run, and are they just Disney films? Thanks for the info!

When we lived in Orlando we went down to Celebration for a festival/fair of some kind...I remember a pie eating contest. Anyway, we ate a the Market Street Cafe and really enjoyed it. We were just looking for someplace to get a quick bite and with the festival going on most of the restaurants were packed.

I enjoyed the day we spent there, although it did have a bit of a "Stepford" feel...don't know as I'd want to deal with their HOA!!

This is what would worry me... I fear I'd have much too much lawn work to do in order to stay within the rules!

This is what I always wonder about. I think it's really nice when a whole town is diligent about putting out their Halloween decorations, I think it's creepy when the HOA makes them OR ELSE!

It just really had a "big brother" kind of feel...not a blade of grass out of place...great for a theme park...not so great when it's your home and you like Purple flowers and the HOA says only Pink are allowed.

I guess you agree to this when you make the purchase but, I don't know about anyone else...my tastes change over time.

When I lived in Western NY, I had a good friend who celebrated her BD on Jan 1st...LOTS of snow. She also had a dislike for the pink, plastic birds...for her 30th I planted a "flock" of them, about 20, in her front yard in the dead of night. When she opened her LR drapes the next morning, they were all there smiling at her!!!
