I've got the no ADR blues...

So we've opted not to do a Dining Plan this trip. This is the first time we've done Disney without a dining plan in a long time. We also decided to skip out on table service completely. Strike that. We HAD decided to skip out on table service restaurants completely.

Until I got a little misty looking at The Disney Food Blog menus. So I've decided we must make at least ONE ADR this trip. Since we are traveling with a 2 year old and plans can change in an instant any place that requires a credit card for cancellation fees is out (i.e. character meals). I thought about Mickey's Backyard BBQ...especially since the DFB said it's a great place for "kids with energy".

I've been thinking about Ohana or Whispering Canyon Cafe...possibly SciFi? Basically somewhere rambunctious and if my kid acts like a**hat people won't really mind. I mean I know it's Disney and kids are everywhere but I'm still overly conscious of letting other around me enjoy their dining experience.

Yes, I know that I cannot look at The Disney Food Blog without dreaming of making ADRs! I believe there is no need for you to be overly conscious of the baby misbehaving at a Disney restaurant...really, you shouldn't worry!!! But Mickeys Backyard BBQ does sound like a great idea for you (although I've never been). I've only been to Ohana's for the character breakfast, and I've been to Whispering Canyon for breakfast (fine choice). I haven't been to Sci-Fi but that might be too dark and possibly scary for a baby?

Holden may be a bit to young to fully enjoy the BBQ. If you do decide to try it though you will have to pay in full when you make your reservations. Also the seating there is first come, first serve so you will need to go early if you want a table close to the stage where all the action is. Also if you are looking for a good meal for your ADR this is not it. It is a BBQ. They serve hamburgers and hotdogs. And not very good ones at that.

Bella don't worry about your kid being crazy at a restaurant. The cast members are so good even at finding things to keep them entertained and of course the theme of the places captivate even the little ones. My kids are 5 and 3 and can seem like hell on wheels at are local restaurants but at Disney they are too amazed by everything to act up. Its either that are they are too tired and don't have the energy to be all crazy. Trust me I understand your concern because my husband is frequently wanting to eat out at home but I am like with these kids are you crazy. But we go to Disney with the Deluxe Dining Plan and hit several table service restaurants and have never had a problem.

Do Whispering Canyon if you have a choice. My daughter loved it! Loved the waiter, and the atmosphere of it all.

Oh I so feel you! I'm not on the Dining Plan this trip for the first time in years and I admit, I'm freaking out a bit. I've got no idea where we'll be eating for about half the trip, and trying to estimate what our budget will be is giving me fits. I want my dining plan!

I vote for Whispering Canyon of O'hana. Bonus... they both have a/c!

I certainly did! I love WCC!

Welp taking in all your advice I decided to ditch the BBQ idea and go with Whispering Canyon. Actually, I decided to go with Ohana but the earliest ADR i could get was 9 so that sort of made up my mind for me! Dave is excited to eat the Skillet again. It has been years and he still talks about it!

Y'all know I LOVE LOVE LOVE O'hana, its probably my favorite, but I have to give a vote to Sci-fi.. it doesn't seem to get rave reviews on this board, but it was one of my favorite meals while we were at Disney. Plus the atmosphere is so much fun!

We got chocolate milk shakes, spinach dip for an app (it was incredible) and burgers. The food was really really good! Plus they have the old cartoons they show on the big screen! So Sci-Fi is my vote for you!

You son will love the table outside of WCC where he can play with the "Lincoln Logs".

emma I agree with you that Sci-Fi is a very under rated restaurant. We have never had a bad meal, and can usually just walk up and get in.
