Jedi Training Academy - HELP

Hi Gang! As many of you know, our big family trip is only 36 days away. Being the good WDW fanatic that I am, I had everything planned out pretty well. That is until my nephew sprung it on me yesterday that he really really wants to do the Jedi Training Academy at DHS. From what I understand, that is quite a difficult activity to snag. Has anyone done it before? How did you do it? If I had known earlier, I would have tried to schedule a breakfast at DHS before the park opened, so I could run right over to the sign up spot and get in line, but since we're only 36 days out, there are no ADRs available for breakfast. My next thought is to be in line outside of DHS before the park opens and make a run for it when we get through the turnstiles...which brings me to my next questions....how early before the park opens should we get there and where is the sign up spot? Any and all tips or advice welcome. Thanks!

First of all, you will need the child with you when you go to sign up. The child will be asked a few questions. The sign up spot is right next to the exit of the Hyperion Theater (where American Idol used to be). Get there as early as possible because it can fill up quickly. If you get there right at park open, please don't run but walk over the to spot. No need for you and the child to risk falling down over something like this.

Hi Mandy. Thanks for the location. I had read on line that sometimes the sign up location changes. I've already told Liam (my nephew) that he has to be with me to sign up and that there is a chance we might end up standing in line and not get a spot. Oh and "make a run for it" is just a figure of speech. I'm not in the habit of running anywhere. laugh

I'm pretty sure they have been keeping the JTA sign ups in the same location now. As long as your there right around park open and that's the first spot you go to, then you should be fine.

I took my 11 year old nephew to the park at rope drop, walked quickly, but not frantically, to sign up, made it in plenty of time to pick our own schedule for training. He was absolutely thrilled with the entire experience, took it very seriously! Fantastic fun for all of us, very exciting. You'll be fine if you get there at rope drop.

Thanks, gang! I really appreciate the help! Of course its the only day I blocked for sleeping in and relaxing at the resort for a bit in the AM, but he's worth it.

Also, They recently started doing a new rope drop where guests are brought in about half way up Hollywood Blvd around 8:30 but wait to drop it until park open. Not sure how long this is will last.

You're welcome. The only day they aren't doing that, is morning EMH.

So it looks like we'll be missing it by one lousy day. They are closing this down for a refurb on 10/4, and we were planning to take my nephew on 10/5. I'm so bummed. He's going to be heart broken. Sometimes change really sucks!

That does suck. Are you able to change your plans or are you not arriving before then?

Sadly, we won't be arriving until 11:00 AM on 10/4 and based on what everyone has told me, in order to sign up and get a spot, you need to be at the park 1/2 hour before it opens, and given that will be the last day of the training, I don't think we have shot of getting a spot arriving so late. sad
