Ha - yes! We rode the last one that seriously threatened (2004) out with a keylime pie, other comfort foods, and a cooler for when we lost power (I was uber pregnant or that list would've included a bottle of wine too.)

I've been keeping an eye on the storm updates, since they've already started evacuating a couple of counties on the Eastern Shore and some of the larger cities. Trying to keep up with Facebook in case any of my friends that have to leave need a place to crash.

Let me know how it looks.

Are you supposed to get hit with it in Pennsylvania?

My parents were supposed to go on a bus trip to Atlantic City Sunday through Wednesday. The trip got moved to Monday through Thursday. They're not able to go now since they already had plans to drive to my brother's in NC on Thursday. They have tickets to the Steelers / Panthers game Thursday night in Charlotte.

I was there for a hurricane in 97 or 98- can't remember which. A cast member told my family that when winds will be really bad they dismantle the castle and that it takes 11 hours. He also told us that the Epcot golfball can withstand winds up to 250 mph which has never really happened there- after that it may roll lol. I'm hoping that part was a joke. He said the path it would take would be straight into a lagoon and that the road dips for that on purpose.

That castmember had a VERY overactive imagination and should go into show business as a storyteller. rolling. The castle can not be dismantled in 11 hours (except maybe with a crane and a wrecking ball Smile ) also the "golfball" can take very high wids but will not roll ( unless hit with a VERYbig putter). laugh

Yes- I think it's a funny urban myth they tell tourists! But it sure would be neat!

The latest for CT - the southern four counties are under hurricane warning and the northern four (where I live) are under tropical storm warning through tomorrow. Irene is supposed to hit tomorrow afternoon around 2:00. Here's my hurricane preparedness kit.

Just came back in from taking a walk outside to get some "before" pictures, and you can definitely feel it in the air that something is coming. Wind has started slightly, the first rain is supposed to reach us in the early afternoon with the heaviest part of the storm between 9 PM and 3 AM tonight.

We're getting ready here too. This area floods pretty badly so I'm expecting it. Got some water, chips, peanut butter, wine, cheese, and crackers.

We've had SO much rain this August I'm so worried about the trees not being able to hold on- so are the newscasters.

Hope no one here gets too much damage!

For those in the path of Irene, hang in there and stay safe! You're in my thoughts and prayers.

And now for my neurotic worry wart mom message. Though I appreciate the concept of the hurricane party preparation, please drink responsibly! If something awful happens you don't want to be wasted. Keep your wits about you!!

Nope..I'm in Columbia so it was a little too far inland for it to reach us.

Yep...that's a good kit right there... Smile

Hmmm...I think my hurricane kit has Caiphirinha or Margarita fixins in it, plus a bottle or two of wine. Chips...peanut butter...ooh! Rice krispie treats!

Who else? What's in your kit to make the best of a sucky situation?

Mine is a bit different since I can't drink. Mine would consist of Simple Orange Juice, Minute Maid Pink Lemonade, my little portable generator, my MacBook, my MiFi, and tons of Jack Links Beef Jerky... lol

We're getting some rain but the worse of it won't come until tomorrow.

I have added peanut butter, cheese and pepperoni to the survival kit.

Update on Irene in CT.

The outer bands should be hitting soon. The winds will be picking up during the night. The eye is expected to hit during high tide tomorrow morning. According to the weather map they are showing on the local news, my area of the state will get more of the wind damage. They also are expecting a tornado warning within the hour. Good times.

Irene should be on her merry way by 2:00 tomorrow afternoon.

This will be the first hurricane in CT where the eye made landfall since Gloria in 1985.

We just got a lot of hype and a lot of rain here. Power stayed on. I made a tasty dinner and we watched a movie.

Power stayed on here. There was barely any wind- a bit of a let down lol. The creek overflowed down the street by my parents though and slowly made it's way up the block and into our driveway. The basement is flooding a bit but since power stayed on the french drains and pump are helping really hold it at bay this time. We also put cinder blocks and sand bags in front of the garage door to hopefully stop the garage from flooding into our TV room and basement

The storm has been downgraded to a tropical storm. It's still windy and raining. The eye should be hitting CT soon. I haven't lost power yet, but the lights have flickered a couple of times. The cable went out.

News just said Irene is 20 west of Danbury Ct. No power loss here either or flooding.
