Kiss Goodnight

On the day we go to MK (September 28) they show the park open till 1:00am with the Extra Magic Hours.
Does this mean the Kiss Goodnight will be at 1:30am or at 11:30 after the regular close time. Are these times even correct for that time of year?

The Kiss Goodnight will be after the 1am close. And as always, park hours are subject to change, but this is probably correct being that it's about a month away.

Thanks JanJ. That's what I thought just wanted to be sure. I see we are there at the same time. We are at POR if you would like to meet and say hi.

We expect to be at MK in the afternoon on the 28th with MrHub and scrappy, so may be able to meet up between FP's.

We experienced this on our last January trip - only because the park closed at 8pm! biggrin

I've been keeping an eye on September and Park hours were just update within the last couple of weeks, so I would say that's probably accurate. Those are pretty late hours for a Wednesday night in September. I'll be there the Wednesday prior and our MK EMH hours are until 11pm, which was adjusted up from a month ago 10 pm closing. My guess is that the Disney Resorts are packed due to Food & Wine Festival (earning report said that hotel occupancy is up this year, and the first weekend in October is always booked solid for DVC rooms) so they've adjusted the times up at MK to compensate.

Don't question - just enjoy! yay

As soon as Wishes has ended at the Magic Kingdom each evening, most guests make a mad dash for the park exits in a move that typically means getting caught in congestion and some of the longest lines you'll ever see to board the Disney resort buses. But did you actually know that the park stays open an hour after closing? I should clarify that the lands making up Magic Kingdom will be shut down (no rides), but Main Street including Emporium will remain open for anyone in need of some late-night retail therapy. And for those lucky enough to hang tight while the crowds swell toward the exits, Disney has a very special treat in store- The Kiss Goodnight.
This 2-3 minute event will start up approximately 30 minutes after the park has closed. It is essentially Magic Kingdom's way of saying "Go Home!" But, like everything else Disney World does it is filled with magic and pixie dust and is the perfect feel-good send-off after a long day at the parks. Cinderella's Castle will start to twinkle to life in a light show display filled with lots of tranquil blue and purple hues before "When you Wish Upon a Star" starts to play over the speakers.
The culmination of the kiss is a narrator giving a heart-felt send-off that is a variation on the following:
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, on behalf of everyone here at the Magic Kingdom, we thank you for joining us today for a magical gathering of family, friends, fun, and fantasy. We hope that your magical journey with us has created wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

Walt Disney said that the Magic Kingdom is a world of imagination, hopes, and dreams. In this timeless land of enchantment, magic and make believe are reborn, and fairy tales come true. The Magic Kingdom is a place for the young and the young at heart. A special place where when you wish upon a star, your dreams can come true. Until we see you again, have a safe trip home. Thank you, and goodnight."

Mickey caps it all off by saying "So long everybody. See ya real soon!" before "When You Wish Upon a Star" finishes up with a dramatic crescendo.

In my 40 years or more of going to WDW I have only seen the kiss god night once. But is very moving and just thinking about it brings a tear to my eye. Hoping to experience it again some time in 2017!

There's also the "blow off" at Epcot when they purge all the gas lines for the inferno barge...

And, if you stay late enough in a park after it closes, you may see them turn on the searchlights and release the hounds. Yeah, that wolf you hear howling all hours of the day at haunted mansion? He's the one that REALLY clears the park.
