On the one hand, this is supercool.

On the other hand, I don't think I would want all my wedding guests staring at the cake to see what it does next all through the reception.

I do some motion-graphics work and projection mapping from time to time. My typical rate is $75 to $120 per hour, depending on the scale of the project. As a baseline, 60 seconds of content is around 12 to 20 hours of work, depending on the complexity. Depending on the level of customization Disney is delivering, the price tag is not at all unreasonable.

That is quite remarkable. It's a definite contrast to a recent Shark Tank pitch where a couple actually tried to get the investors to invest a business that makes fake wedding cakes for rental with a compartment for actual cake. Needless to say, all of the investors refused to invest. Lori Greiner put it best, "I don't want my 'Something Borrowed' to be my cake," and neither should anyone else for that matter......

I saw that episode and this was the first thing that I thought of!
I must admit, I think that the fake cake thing is pretty brilliant myself.

I really don't think that is true. Weddings are EXPENSIVE and if you can find ways to cut back without cutting back the look, the average bride will jump on it. Our wedding cake we had a fake cake for the bottom two layers and then the top layer was real so that we could cut it. The rest of the cake served to our guests was sheet cake. We had the fake cake custom made vs. rented and even that saved us over $500. If I had had the option to rent I would have done it in a heartbeat.

Ditto, Allie. We actually ended up having a real cake, but believe me, the wheels were turning over whether or not I could make a realistic looking one out of styrofoam! laugh My dad offered us $10,000 to elope. Our wedding was beautiful and we have lovely memories and pictures, but if I had it to do again, I'd take the 10K and run!

That being said, this cake is wicked cool.

Perhaps I need to modify the statement that people wouldn't want something borrowed as their wedding cake...assuming cost is not a factor! I am fully aware that in these days, money is, more often than not, trumps all when it comes to big purchases.

Sorry for digging up an old topic, but if you can find the video footage (which would need to be warped to match the perspective of the cake), you just need one projector. I noticed that the cake is square and positioned at a 45. There's no video on the back of it. I should have gone into wedding planning.

Yes - they actually hide the project in a box wrapped like a gift and place the Gift Table nearby. Pretty clever - as long as no one stands in the middle.
