Legends Question...

A friend asked me today why Walt & Roy O. had never been designated Disney Legends.

I told him I had no idea, but wondered if it was because they WERE "Disney" and the Legends were non-family who helped to build the empire.

Interesting question though.

I think that's the right answer. If the trophy is named after you, you don't necessarily need to try to win it!

Sorry to be so out of touch--is there a particular "Disney Legends" distinction?

Yes, it started about 20 years ago. Every now and then, the company designates particular people who have had a noticable impact on the growth, success and innovations of the Walt Disney Company.
Neat thing about it, is it can be someone who was in charge of merchandising for the parks, or it can be Kurt Russell! Can be a childhood actor from a serial, or Elton John.
Here is the official website for the Legends http://legends.disney.go.com/legends/index
You can learn an incredible amount about why you love Disney if you look through these incredible bios!

I had no idea this existed either bali, so don't feel bad. That's really interesting. I'd say that it's self-evident that the Disney's are Disney legends. However it does kind of make sense to designate which one's were REALLY involved like Walt and Roy. Maybe they just though it would seem to self-serving?

That's a great link, MT. I learn quite a bit from these boards. Now, are these the "busts" they have over in Disney Hollywood Studios?

I agree dsoup, that they probably just figure Walt and Roy are THE Legends, and that designating them as such would be superfluous.

Like most Disney links, it leaves me wanting more. Really cool statue though, right?

Don't feel too bad for them. Joseph Pulitzer never won a Pulitzer prize either.
