Let's go "eat around the world"

One of my favorite things to do in Disney is eat..duh. It's why I come home 800 pounds heavier than when I left even though I typically walked nine miles a day. The Dave (that's my husband..I like to call him that..but you don't have to) and I love to take one day and eat around the world. We wake up late..only hit the World Showcase..eat until we feel like we are going to die and then go hit the hot tub or something. I should say The Dave's favorite thing to do is drink around the world..but that's another thread for another day.

Anyway, here's typically what we do..I'd love to hear what everyone else does too! There is SO much good stuff to eat in WS I am always missing something..

We usually start in Mexico..don't know why..I guess because we are usually starving and Canada doesn't have any good options and the UK just seems soo much further laugh .

Mexico: We usually split a meal..I think we usually get the sampler. I love this place a lot more than The Dave so I eat more Smile

Norway: Yum..I love the fruit tart or the strawberry creme cup. I've tried to Schoolbread and the Cloudberry Horn and I wasn't a fan of either. I know..I should be shot.

China: Eggrolls..always eggrolls! I am not really an eggroll person..I usually prefer a Spring Roll at our local Chinese place but the WDW eggrolls are just so delicious. I don't even want you to tell me what's in them (i'm not a pork fan)..but I love them. I want one now

Germany: We usually skip Sommerfest..The Dave had a bad experience there with a Bratwurst once that we haven't forgotten about yuck

Italy: We always change it up in Italy..I've never really found a favorite there. Which is good I guess..for variety. I'm excited about the pizza place that is going to open there..is that still a rumor or is that confirmed yet?

Japan: Again, we skip this..ok well..we get Saki..but we usually don't eat. I'm not a fan of Yakitori House..

Morocco: Oh..my..goodness..Tangerine Cafe is my favorite place to eat..EVER. I love the Chicken Schwarma Platter. I could eat that stuff all day and all night long. I have always wanted to go to Marrakesh but we've never been because we just love eating here so much. Usually we eat here at least twice per trip.

France: I always get a pastry..and it's usually chocolate. I've had the crossiant, eclair, and the mousse. All of them are great but next time I want to try the tarts..

UK: Take a guess..fish & chips...and a Strongbow.

Then I go home and die.

This makes me think of the WDW Today podcast. They have done a few of these that they record - it is so funny! But they make it you can eat or drink, just something at each country.

You should definitely get some Kakigori (shaved ice) in Japan. Great for a trip around the world because it's yummy and doesn't fill you up!

Here's one to consider for your next trip around the world. Canada actually does have an offering that's good for this. You can get the soup and breadstick to go:

I think I just died.

I love this soup!!! I had it at the F&W Festival first and then at LeCellier and I think I still have dreams about it. It is just soo wonderful! I'm underwhelmed by LeCellier and the strategic planning that goes into making an ADR there but I am always wanting that soup..I LOVE this and I am totally doing it next time.

Japan also has some fun light options in the shops, like gummi candies or Pocky.

LOL Im a "drink around the world" kinda gal...but you betcha Ill get in that long line and get some fish n chips and a Bass. Then onto France for a Grey Goose Slushie (or Grand Marnier Orange slushie...ok maybe BOTH!) but I have to stop at Boulangerie Patisserie for some Creme Brulee and cheesecake and about 3 other desserts...oh France Pavillion how I miss you! Then onto Morrocco for some Mint Ice tea (or warm if its chilly out!) Then I gotta jump into Mitsukoshi...jump? who am I kidding. Im pretty sure Ive lost DAYS in there not to mention a paycheck or 5! I gotta have my Japanese candy! Then on to American adventure to see the Voice of Liberty! I usually find one of my Disney Friends there! Then Italy....ummm I dont get any food or drink in Italy cause I get sucked into the perfume store there. So there isnt usually any money left for food or dink in Italy when I get done Wink I dont think Ive ever really stopped in Germany for very long...guess thatll be a must do for next time! China...oh China (wait isnt that Oh Canada?) I HAVE to get egg rolls too! Then onto Norway...the only thing I get in Norway is the Eye Candy Wink And then the BEST for last MEXICO!!!! Tequilla bar? Check! Mango Margarita and Nacho's while watching Illuminations muchlove

He got a bratwurst there..he'd never had bratwurst before..this was probably his first mistake. Second mistake, it was approx.95 degrees outside. He took one bite and said "This taste gross" and proceeded to take off the Saurkraut. (He hates Saurkraut so he thought maybe this was the issue). He took another bite..said "Oh yeah..it still taste gross".
Then here's the part I don't get..he proceeded to eat almost the entire thing (there was one bite left) and then he said "I think it was undercooked". yuck

Let's just say we stopped eating around the world then and went back to the hotel.

I like the fast food gummies that are shaped like burgers and hot dogs and stuff. Do they taste any different than other gummies? Probably not, but I still think they're fun!

PsychoAlice and Bella, thanks for the tips! I've bought sake in the Japanese store...and purses...but never the candy! I'm weirded out that I can't read what it says, but I'll have to take the plunge next time.

Yeah, don't get confused and accidentally buy shrimp chips instead.

We LOVE shopping in Japan. DW spent part of her childhood there, so has some favorite treats. I have been very pleased with my candy 'risks' there. Even when it didn't know what the heck it was, it was pretty darn good. We make it a point to stick to things we can't get at local stores though.

p.s. I too am a gummi-holic.

Japanese candy is always the best, but for me I'm a Pocky fanatic, the little biscuit sticks covered in chocolate. Also love Ramune, the soda with the marble in it. There's a Japanese maketplace in Illinois, so shopping Japan almost reminded us of home.

Funny, both of those are favorites of DW (from her childhood in Japan) so we had to get them. I had enjoyed Pocky sticks plenty of times before that, but they have some flavors there you may have a hard time finding elsewhere. The soda was yummy and kinda fun.

Is the marble candy or what?

You're welcome to suck on it, but I wouldn't recommend biting it...it's glass.

Apparently kids often remove and keep the marble.

I've never noticed that soda before so pardon my ignorance but isn't the marble in it a "choking hazard" confused ??

I LOVE pocky!! There are so many different kinds available, too!

No, it's design is such that the marble can go in but not come out. It has been that way since the inception of that cap in the late 1800's, as it is designed to be (and surprisingly, works well as) a stopper. The pressure inside the bottle, from the carbonation, forces the marble up into the mouth of the bottle where it is held firmly in place until the person who's about to enjoy the drink dislodges it.

DH and I do the same...my favorite is the Mango Gummy candy and his is the Rice Candy! We never get out of World Showcase without a stop in Japan. I'm slowly purchasing a set of dishes...have a place setting for two, I'm now working on serving pieces!! Oh and I LOVE Hello Kitty....I think a lunchbox is on the list this next trip!!
