Maleficent

Went to see Maleficent tonight......... No spoilers. Really, really good. Jolie suits it the role so well. Dark but funny in parts and the 3D is worth while.

I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'm not an Angelina Jolie fan, but I think she was a good choice for the part.

I can't wait to see it. When I was recently at Hollywood Studios the had a 9 minute preview. It was interesting.

Check your local theater listings, friends! It officially opens here on Friday, but apparently Disney is now "soft opening" their movies, too because there is a 7:00 showing tomorrow night at our local theater and I will be there!! This movie was originally announced for like 2011 or something...let's just say I've been waiting a looong time to see my favorite villain on the big screen! This has basically been the best Disney movie year of my life!

I caught a press preview last night and it was awesome! We're still under embargo so the review will go up Friday morning.

I'm not really a fan of 3D, but it did make some of the effects better than if they had been flat. I especially loved the effect of the green fire that comes up around her when she's making the curse. I thought that they did a beautiful job with that curse scene in regards to matching it with Disney's Animated version. Angelina nailed it. A beautiful story of betrayal and redemption, I think that it will resonate with a lot of people. Not one to take small children to though, the scene where she loses her wings was particularly disturbing to me. I suggest 12 and up only.

I just got back. There are parts that I thought were absolutely fantastic, but there are two things that I really didn't like. I won't say what yet unless we're changing this to a spoiler alert thread Smile

Yeah, after Frozen and Mr. Banks, I am a tough sell too. But it sounds like this movie may even appeal to those who do not really "do Disney" because it is a villain and has a scary element to it.

I'm going with a friend next week. Our local paper just reviewed it, and gave it 4 stars. I don't particularly care for Angelina Jolie, so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I'm with Disney Doc on this one, my personality favors sunshine and rainbows, not a big fan of the dark side of anything, especially Disney. I do understand that lots of people like it, I just prefer heroes and happy to villains and evil. We did watch Sleeping Beauty in school yesterday (almost the last day). A lot of my 2nd graders had never seen it. Now they know who Malificent is, there's some educational connection in there somewhere confused I think.

Yes there is Julie......you can have fun learning at school. When I was in school back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, we would have assemblies where they showed great Vincent Price movies and the best suspense movie "Wait Until Dark" with Audrey Hepburn.

I know, I remember watching Old Yeller with a film projector in the school library. Now I have a digital projector and surround sound in my classroom! Makes you feel like you're in the movies!

Saw it a few hours ago and well.... It's not great, the cgi creatures are awful, the moors look like pandora and the plot is very similar to wicked. Joley is good but the script is dreadful, very naive at times. I would give it 4/10.

Going to see it in an hour yay

Maleficent is my favorite Villain and according to my DH, my alter ego laugh

I haven't even seen it yet and I know that Angelina is perfect for the role...I was so excited when I first heard about the movie!

Well, I'm just back from the movie and I have to say I'm massively underwhelmed. I'm so sad, this could have been great, but it really is just a bunch of special effects strung together with no story line to tie it together. I am so disappointed - I was watching Angelina Jolie act instead of watching Maleficent. A great movie suspends reality for a time and you lose yourself in the story...not so much this time.

I saw it again this afternoon and as a children's villains movie, I think it plays much better. I just would have preferred the PG-13 version.

I just don't really know what the point of disney making this film was, other then if James Cameron pulls the pug on avatar land they can turn it in to the moors. Also did anyone elsa think the twist was just the same as frozen?

I thought it was a fantastic movie once I got my head wrapped around that it wasn't the story we knew from Sleeping Beauty.

Well I went this afternoon and I liked it...true it is different and I won't say more on that unless we are under spoiler alert. I did think that Jolie played her part well.

My daughter and I are going this weekend. Does it change the way you see the "Sleeping Beauty" cartoon?

I don't feel that way. The 1959 animated feature is what my econ professor used to refer to as "The Kelloggs Cornflakes Model" meaning that it's the original and the best!

I don't know how old your daughter is, but it could be tough for small kids to understand that the two stories don't necessarily run parallel, but maybe it's a good opportunity to teach them to distinguish art from reality and that anything is possible on TV and in movies.

anyone "elsa"??? LOL yay

I have not seen it yet. My dad took Blondie yesterday (Thursday) and it was sold out which surprised me... Then the kid at the ticket counter told him, "I have one ticket, you want it?" Yea, sending Blondie in alone or leave her in the car??? DUH

I have heard such various opinions on this movie. I have friends who have hated it and ones who were blown away and say it's amazing... When I do get some time and get there, I am going to do my best to go in with an open mind... crossfingers
