Mama Melrose's vs. Tony's Town Square

Ah...the classic Italian battle. Here's another dining comparison thread for everyone to weigh in on!

My thoughts? Mama's is probably better food, overall. But the service is often poor, and the setting is nothing to write home about.

Tony's Town Square is a fun idea, and I love the Lady and the Tramp references throughout. The food isn't great, but you CAN sit on the patio and catch a parade now and again... cool

Your turn!

Recently ate at Tony's and the food was fine. Nothing special--kind of on a par with an Olive Garden I guess.

But there's nothing like sitting on the patio and watching Spectromagic. It's just an amazing experience. mickey

I think they're both pretty low quality food, so I'd go with the view at TTS.

I think you guys are totally under-selling the Lady and the Tramp references! I would say that TTS is also a little harder to get into in my experience.

Oh, I LOVE Mama Melrose's!!

I think the food (love the flatbreads and the chicken parm) is great, the desserts (esp the cheesecake) are amazing, and I really like the atmosphere. It feels like I'm back in NYC when I'm there, and the backstory of the restaurant is fun.

I also like that it's so tucked back into DHS. People just don't know about it, so it's always a fun surprise for them.

I really enjoy it, and always choose it for our Fantasmic Dinner Packages.

I can't really compare the two, since I've never eaten at Tony's but I loved Mama Melrose's when I was there. Great food, great alcoholic beverage (the Surfer, I think?). Of course, that was 4 years, so it may have gone downhill since then, but I'd certainly go again (if there weren't so many other places to try!).

Hi,

I've eaten at both places, Mama Melrose's on October 17, 2000 and at Tony's Town Square on December 1, 2005. I had snacked and drank water throughout that day in 2000 so wasn't very hungry when I got to Mama Melrose, a place tucked into a corner of DHS. I can't remember what I had (some kind of pasta) but I didn't eat it all.

Tony's Town Square was different. I had the seafood pasta which was good, and seven iced teas, which was probably not so good. The food was OK but overpriced. I remember leaving the restaurant in that limbo between "pleasantly full" and "movement is possible but not a good idea".

Yeah Mama Melrose is usually a pretty easy ADR to get. You can also get a Fantasmic! dinner package there.

Lady and the Tramp is my favorite Disney movie. I can't wait to try Tony's in November. I have read good and bad things about the food and service but that can happen at any restaurant. I'll go and make my own decision if I want to return. I mentioned Mama Melrose's to my friend when I told her about the Fantasmic Dinner Package (she has gone to Disney every year for 5 or 6 years in a row and didn't know about it). Anyway, she tried Mama Melrose's and didn't care for it.

The food is horrid at both (especially since you know how I feel about our Italian food up here in Northern Jersey!) I'd go with Tony's though simply because I like Lady & the Tramp and the Magic Kingdom.
