Merida's Coronation

Is anyone going to be in the Magic on May 11th? I would love to see this!
If so, will you get there early for the festivities?

Just a minor nitpick...

I can see that characters like Cinderella, Belle, and Tiana would need coronation ceremonies since they were born commoners and married princes. But characters like Merida and Rapunzel were born princesses. Why do they need to be crowned?

Hrmmmm.... I don't know. I do know that Prince Charles had an official Coronation as Prince of Wales when he was a teenager.

Ahhh... looking it up right now, that was called an "Investiture" not a "Coronation" it could just be Disney is using the wrong semantics?

Why did they need to rework her image to the off the shoulder/sexy style. I liked how she looked and the message she gave before.

The investiture made Charles Prince OF WALES. He was already Prince Charles even before the investiture. Just like his younger siblings, who never got invested as anything.

Okay, I realize Disney just wants to have an excuse for a party. But I think they could find a better way than by holding a ceremony to make a princess out of somebody who's already supposed to be a princess.

I think (if I remember right) the first Princess that got one was Tiana, so that was legit. Smile

Actually a coronation is held when a prince/princess becomes king, queen, emperor or empress. Not to be nitpicky or anything. laugh

Okay, does that mean Merida is about to become a queen?

You got me but if they consider her a princess then my answer would have to be a resounding MAYBE?!? Who knows but whatever it should be fun. How's that for a definitive no answer.

I agree...I think she was fine before the updated princess look...she was already a princess to begin with and I loved her style...am not really feeling the off the shoulder look for her.

I'm just nitpicking. If I were there I'd go to the coronation and have a blast.

I am so disappointed that I missed this ceremony by a week sad I loved Brave and the message it sent to young girls. Of course we all love our prince charmings, but I love it that Merida was given the chance to find herself first! I love watching that movie with my daughter as she is 18 and sometimes thinks the world revolves around finding a prince. I would love to see a Brave 2 though where she finds her true love biggrin

I agree with you guys. No need to Vavoom up the already-awesome Merida!

We can be thankful that at least they're not wrapping her hair under that weird white thing like they did in the movie...ha!!

For anyone who's up and about (it's 7:45 EDT) Merida's coronation and "controversial make over"'will be discussed on The Today Show. I love a good Disney feature, but must be a slow news morning for The Today Show...

Thank you so much for posting this Mrhub!! My husband and I are both huge princess fans and love Merida--we were bummed that we missed the coronation by just a few days (and it was on my birthday, too--but we were on a Disney cruise, so still pretty awesome!). We did, however, get an awesome Toddler Merida doll in her traditional Scottish archery outfit from the Toys R Us outlet in Lake Buena Vista on the 12th that we plan to give to our future daughter someday! yay

I was there for the coronation and the sound from the back was terrible. I couldn't hear anything. But that's okay, I got to see the dress rehearsal. They only changed her dress for the coronation. Just like in the movie, they put her in a more official dress for the occasion. I believe Disney has coronations because it's there way of making the princesses official. I do know that Rapunzel also had one as well but that was held in like the U.K. or something. They might be using the wrong term for it though.
