MNSSHP - Do You Dress Up?

Hi all,

So I've booked a ticket for my first ever Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party this September, and I'm undecided whether or not to dress up. Do lots of you guys dress up? What kind of reaction do you get? Do you think the party is better when you dress up?

FYI, I'm travelling alone, just in case that changes peoples opinions. And I'm thinking of going as EVE from Wall.E, as I adore that film.

Thanks for any responses Smile

We always do something. But I am limited because it's so hot. I refuse to get all costumed up and sweat like crazy. Last year I was a pirate sort of- doo rag, eye patch and big earring. The year before we wore light up LED tee shirts. One year we all had pizza slices costumes. One year my daughter just got her arms stamped in EPCOT and was the human passport. One year we were Mr and Mrs Potato Head (I hated that one). When the kids were little it was a big deal with full blown costumes for them. But it's fun to participate even in my advanced years! wheelchair

I went twice last year, it was my 1st trip to the world and I went on my own.

I dressed up as aurora the 1st night and it was great, lots of cm's calling hi princess as I walked past. I'm not normally one for dressing up but it was really good fun and the interaction with people was great.

The 2nd night I had a mickey t-shirt with glow in the dark spider web on it. A few people commented on it and Jack sparrow said 'umm luv do you know you have a spider on your shirt?' Which started a random conversation which was awesome.

I noticed that a lot if not most people dressed up, I feel I enjoyed it more when I put more effort in, but saying that the party was fantastic either way, I hope you enjoy it awesome

My DH and I are going this year for the first time too. We want to dress up but we don't want anything too hot or constricting. I think we are going to wear Thing 1 and Thing 2 t-shirts and blue hats to represent their hair.

We want to participate in the Halloween fun but it would ruin our night to have a big costume on. But I will really enjoy it if other people wear great costumes that I can admire.

I don't dress up, just not my thing. But when we went last year, The Spouse wore an orange polo and I wore a black one - as close to costumes as I'll get...

I wore a black cat-face T shirt and cat ears; hubby wore a giraffe print T shirt and giraffe print Mickey ears. So we sort of dressed up, but nothing elaborate. Next time I have BIG plans, though.

I think it's fun to dress up! You can also do something more like a Disneybound so you don't have a huge costume, but still get to feel part of the Halloween spirit. My now-husband and I went 2 years ago as Ellie and Carl from Up, and we got to wear fairly normal clothes while still technically being in costume!

We were planning to dress up last year, but it was SUPER hot on party night and there was rain in the forecast (we ended up running through a torrential downpour from It's a Small World to BLT. Hoping for better weather next time--I'll have a costume along just in case!!

Thanks for all the fantastic responses guys! Think I'll go for a slightly minimalist costume so I don't roast! It'll be all white though so fingers crossed for no rain...

Oh my gosh this is too cute!

We dressed up but like others have said, limited it to costumes that wouldn't be too hot. I went as Snow White and DH went as Mario (it was the only simple guy costume I could find on the cheap last minute). We got a lot of comments from CMs about how we better not let Prince Charming and Princess Peach find out. We saw a LOT of other adults dressed up and, especially if you're on a solo trip, I think it makes for a great conversation starter!

Sorry for the blurry pic, it's the only one I have of both of us!

Any excuse to dress up sounds like a good time to me!

Last year we were all Frozen themed. The girls were Anna and Elsa, the boy was Kristoff, which left me with (sigh) Olaf. Simple cool white dress with a crinoline ('cause I like to be fancy! laugh ), big black buttons down the front, and an Olaf face ball cap. Done and done! Easy, cool, simple, and I had a blast dressing up!

I will be going to the first MNSSHP on Tuesday, September 15th with my lovely wife Dawn. We are undecided about what costumes to wear, but want them to be easy to wear and NOT hot at all. Dawn is thinking of dressing like Russel from Up, but I think she'd look great as a Dapper Dawn. For myself, I am leaning towards Terence from the Tinker Bell movies, but having a new fondness for Inside Out may reconsider and go as Bing Bong.

Have a great time FinalChapter! Going as a couple must be awesome, you've got so many excellent duos to go as! I'm going to be making do with a cardboard Wall.E on a ice lolly stick!

I think that's the day I'm going CdnSquirrel Smile Inside Out is out next Friday for us, I'm thinking once it rolls around I'm going to want to dye my EVE costume green and go as Disgust! I'll keep an eye out for a Bing Bong walking around as I collect as many sweets as possible biggrin

I haven't attended a Halloween Party but...I think you should dress up. I mean, you're paying a ton of money to enjoy the Halloween festivities in the Magic Kingdom so why not? Obviously comfort means a lot because of the hot weather so definitely don't try to force yourself to wear long sleeved costume in the heat and humidity. If I could attend a Halloween Party, I'd try to see if I can find a short sleeved shirt and shorts for a potential Indiana Jones costume. I've got a hat already so all I need is the outfit! Otherwise, there's the alternative of Disneybounding.

We have dressed up every time. G goes as a well fed skeleton and I went last time as steampunk ? Vampire. Will try to post a picture. I had very thick tights with glow in the dark bats on the legs and glow in the dark ones stuck on my face I thought I was going to be hot and I was fine.

This year we miss MNSSHP but are doing our first MVMCP which I think is going to be flat compared to MNSSHP.

We've been twice - once with costumes and once without.

The first year we didn't know what to expect - we knew that they'd posted that costumes were welcome, but we didn't know if anyone other than the little ones would be sporting costumes. When we left the hotel room after a brief break in the afternoon, intent on heading back to Magic Kingdom, we ran into a family dressed as the cast (at least the human cast) of Cinderella. Mom was the fairy godmother, dad was prince charming, I'm guessing either other sisters or an aunt and her kids were the step mother and step sisters... And then their 2 year old was Cinderella... Pretty sure I melted right there into mewling little sounds of near death due to cuteness.

Second year we stepped it up. I hand made myself an Ariel costume and my boyfriend grabbed a Prince Eric get up from the costume shop and we were go to go! Only the day of it absolutely poured from about 2pm until 8pm... So we ended up grabbing some Mickey ears and rain jackets instead.

We're hopeful that this year we can actually wear our costumes! I'm going as Merida and he'll be King Fergus. We're going a bit later in the season than we normally do, so fingers crossed we should be able to wear them! Best part? With my insanely curly hair I shouldn't even need a wig! WEOO!

I'm debating the same thing - whether to try a costume or not. I've never been to the party, but I'm going to the first two this year - on 9/15 and 9/18. I am travelling solo as well. If I do anything it will be very minimal because of the heat. Was thinking of Minions but that seems kind of blasphemous to me for WDW. lol

It was honestly the whole reason we decided to dress up the following year. That family's costumes were just... TOO GOOD!

And it was a bit of a bummer, but we still had an awesome time Smile Dressing up is great - and I'd suggest that anyone who can do it, try it - but if you can't, it's still a wonderful time!

DH and I are so excited!! We just booked a trip for October and will be going to our very first MNSSHP!! We have never been able to go to WDW when the party was happening because DH is a teacher and could never get the time off. He has moved to a new school which has a year-round calendar and his first "track-out" break is in OCTOBER!!! WOOHOO!!

We will be staying in Ft. Wilderness Campground for the first time too! Another very exciting "FIRST". We've been trying to get into the campground for a couple of years since we got our new camper...but again because of his previous schedule we couldn't get in (Holidays are IMPOSSIBLE). Here is my question...does anyone know how early in the month folks start decorating their campsites for Halloween? Halloween is our favorite holiday to decorate for but we won't haul all our stuff if people don't start decorating until closer to the holiday - we'll be there the 2nd week in October.

Dress UP! It is part of the fun! I have only been able to attending once in 2011. It was awesome! I dressed up as Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas and my uncle as Jack Skellington, and my mom and grandpa were Pirates. This was before they actually had Jack and Sally out in the parks. But it was so.....cute because there was a bunch of little kids that were freaking out because Sally was out. We had a blast. I would say here are some rules:
Don't wear anything too hot (its still really hot this time of year even though it goes late into the night/morning its still hot
Don't wear anything too short. (FYI my Sally dress wasn't that short but it was too short for me. I am pretty sure I might have flashed my butt at the guy working Space Mountain getting off the ride eek
Don't wear a lot of makeup. Unless you got really good makeup its hot and it will come off mine was almost gone by the end of the night.
Also wear comfortable shoes! I had boots like something Sally would were and my feet were dying!

People really do go all out for it we saw a family dressed up as Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and it was AWESOME! And we actually got asked for a pictures A LOT. So that was also kind of cool. I think dressing up is all part of the fun. My fiance and I are planning our costumes for our trip next year.

The first picture was leaving the Resort. Last picture is the end of the night.

Yes he was at mnsshp by the restrooms by the exit of MK at the end of the night. That was in 2011 he may have moved since or not even be there still. I was super excited to see him though.
