Moderate Resorts

Oh my gosh I only just noticed the free quick service dining plan if you upgrade to a moderate resort! Is anyone else doing this? I don't know if it's worth it. Is the quick service plan any good? What moderate resorts have people tried and where would people recommend?? Oh this is hard! Where to book, where to book, where to book...

(it may be worth mentioning that I am going for 2 weeks with my boyfriend, we are in our mid-twenties with no kids, aren't comfortable in very posh places but do like somewhere nice, and are both on a budget.)

Hey, Pegosaurus! I'm pretty sure the Moderate resorts get the free standard dining plan and the value resorts get the free quick service dining plan in this particular promotion.

Is this the promo you're talking about: http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2010/08/16/disney-world-free-dining-in-2011-announced/

To answer your question, the quick service plan means dining only in counter service, or fast food restaurants in Disney parks and resorts. There are plenty of great options in the counter service realm, but if you ever want to have a sit-down meal with an actual server, that's not included in the plan.

If I were you, I'd upgrade to a moderate and get the standard dining plan, which means you get to have one table-service, sit-down meal per day along with one counter-service meal per day. I think that's a great deal.

Let me know what you think!

I just looked on the Disney website and apparently there is no plan for Value resorts, quick service for moderate and dining plan for deluxe. hm. It's a tricky one!

We decided the dining plan wasn't worth the money (because we wouldn't spend that much on food) so we've gone with Pop Century and no dining plan biggrin

Pop C is great, if you don't spend much time in your room it will have everything you need and leaves more of the budget for other things.

Is there no free dining for POP during that time? Usually all the resorts have some sort of Free Dining..if free dining is being offered of course. Did that change?

There wasn't any for the value resorts. At least not whe booking from the UK, I don't know if you guys get different deals. For free dining they said we would have to upgrade to a moderate.

Meh, I don't mind though. SOOO EXCITED!!!

That's awesome! It's so nice to have plans finalized. Have you booked your flights and everything?

Yup! We're going to New York for 5 days, Washington DC for 2 days then Orlando for 2 weeks in September Laughing out loud I've never been to NY, Washington or been to Orlando out of peak season, so there's a bunch of firsts for me!

Am I planning ADRs? Well, I think I'll make a couple and then just see what happens with the rest. I'll be with friends the first week who I don't think will want to make ADRs so I'll just make a couple for the week after when it's just me and Boyfriend.

I'm thinking Boma, Via Napoli and T-Rex. We will try to make a Planet Hollywood one too since we get a discount! When I look for times for it though they never seem to have times available beyond about 5:30!

Okay, so when I said "a couple" of ADRs, I actually meant 4 Smile

We've always managed to get into T-Rex and Planet Hollywood without reservations and only once had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table.

PH has always been very easy to get a table. The two times we've been there we've walked up and gotten sat within 20 minutes.

oo that is good news! Maybe we will go there after all then Smile Good news about t-rex too - I thought it would be rammed! Reckon you can get the front desk of the hotel to call for you first to check if there will be availability?

DD - we will be staying in Pop Century the whole time and have one of the 14 day disney passes, but will go other places too. Not sure exactly where yet. We plan to go to Discovery Cove but that's the only thing we have definitely decided on so far. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! yay yay yay

Hi Peg!

Sounds like an awesome trip! I haven't been to New York City since October 6-8, 2007 when I, my brother, sister, sister-in-law and aunt went up to the borough of Queens to see my nephew get married. My friend Dave and I went to Washington, DC July 30-August 2, 2010 to see the Phillies and the Nationals at Nationals Park (baseball). While we did get to tour Ford's Theater, where President Abraham Lincoln was shot. and see the room in (and the bed on) which he died, we didn't go anywhere much except between the baseball stadium and our hotel. The reason is that my friend likes to sleep in, and I'm an early riser; and by the time he gets up and his act together, the day's half gone. Have a blast, but be sure to leave the dynamite at home. I hear that airport screeners frown on TNT. Wink

NYC is great. I haven't visited DC in a long time and didn't get to do much while I was there because I was working. I will say driving in DC is a NIGHTMARE. But they have great public transit.
