My Birthday Trip: A question, a concern, and an anecdote

I am terribly excited to announce that last week, we booked our stay (through my lovely CM of a sister--go say hi to her in Tomorrow Land! Her name is CHEYENNE VERSACI. Tell her KACIE sent you! Laughing out loud ) for my birthday celebration in November!
Party Love
DETAILS:

When: Wednesday, November 28th to Monday, December 3rd

Where: Coronado Springs, Preferred Room

Who: The usual suspects, myself (8th grade math teacher at an inner city all boys school) and my wonderful boyfriend Preston, with special appearances by my mother and sister

What: Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, ADRs, Sunshine...

Preston's birthday trip was FUN OVERLOAD, and for sure a jam-packed, roller coaster of a trip. This trip is going to be more low-key and romantic. Hot-tubs, naps, champagne, leisurely strolls through the holiday-fied parks and resorts. I am really looking forward to it. Especially because I do something I NEVER do...take time off from my job. eek I cashed in 3 of my much hoarded personal days for this trip. We thought about going Thanksgiving week when I have time off, but the flights were off the charts crazy expensive. So, time off it was. I'm sure my boys will be fine without me for a few days.....

Alright, three things about this trip (2 are questions)

1.) Originally, I had my heart set on a deluxe resort. Well, everything was out of our price range (even with my sister's discount) expect WL and AKL. I have no desire to stay at AKL unless I get to see constant animals, and there was no availability for those rooms. WL seemed like a good idea until my sister read us the room descriptions. NO KING BEDS. Fulls + Bunk Beds. For upwards $300 a night? They are trifling! yuck So we settled on Coronado Springs (POR and FQ were all booked). Funny part is my parents were down there just this last week, got to WL (where they were originally staying), could only get these crazy full and bunk bed rooms, and then transferred to Coronado and loved it. So, I have high hopes (as usual).

2.) I started to make our ADRs this week. Now I know this is a last minute trip, but according to crowd charts, historically, one of the least crowded weeks of the year. I planned an August trip in July this year too, and got every single ADR we wanted, including Le Cellier. I am having a hard time booking a few places, including Le Cellier. What gives? Is this actually a really crowded time? Was my previous success a fluke? What should I do? confused

I currently have Tusker House brunch, Cape May Cafe breakfast, Tutto Italia, Kouzzina, and Les Chefs de France all booked. I am willing to sacrifice Tusker house if Le Cellier EVER pops back up. I'm keeping an eye out.

3.) Also about dining, can someone please explain the Be Our Guest soft opening? Are they accepting walk ups? When? How? Should we even bother?

Thank you in advance for any tips!

If it was me. . . Wouldn't wait around for Le Cellier. Would you consider Jiko at AKL?

I actually really love the way that the rooms look at Coronado! They're very pretty and luxurious for a moderate resort and I hope to stay there someday... I hope you have an awesome time!!! yay

I completely agree and your plans sound amazing. I think Cornado looks awesome, and that or PORFQ would be my choice of moderate.

Le Cellier is one of the hardest restaurants to get a reservation at, so you may just want to try somewhere else, I would recommend Flying Fish. As for "Be Our Guest" , scrappy says "never say never" , but they are probably so over booked for that time people will be waiting extra long even if they have an ADR. But I have heard that some people got multiple reservations for while they are on vacation during that time just to be able to choose what night they want to go, so there may be cancellations for walk ups, but I would not count on that.

Whoo hooo! Congrats on heading back so soon! awesome

Yes, your previous Le Cellier ease was probably a fluke. I wouldn't wait for an opening, but you can always keep trying while making another reservation elsewhere.

Crowd wise, Disney regular hotels are a little slower, but you're going during prime DVC season. When points rates are low, DVC villas book up in a snap. DVC members are also pretty savy when it comes to making ADRs, so you can get the feeling that it's more crowded than it may really be due to more experienced guests, and adults traveling without kids booking at the higher end restaurants.

I also wouldn't count on getting in to Be Our Guest without a reservation, but you never know. Make a back up plan and keep giving it a try if you're really hopeful.

That's awesome you get to go back so soon. If you are unable to get an ADR for dinner at Be Our Guest, the restaurant is counter service during the day so maybe go for lunch instead - no ADRs required.

We are gong to be there the same week.
The reason all the restaurants are so full is because of the free dining. They didn't do free dining in Aug so there could be the reason. We go every year during Nov and Dec and it falls during free dining. Now that Le Cellier is 2 table services for dinner but only 1 for lunch everyone wants lunch. Don't give up though. I tried for 2 weeks and finally got lunch at the Le Cellier. I would keep trying for Le Cellier, but make ressies for everything if you get LC then you can cancel something.

I am on a personal mission to get a ressie for BOG for 3 people for Nov 25th to Dec 1st. When ever I hear I can't do it, I take it on as a challenge. wink

Right, Le Cellier is only 1 credit at Lunch through December. Come 2013 and both meals are 2 credits! I'm sure that has made a greater demand for those tables as well.

May I suggest Yachtman's in lieu of Le Cellier? --- I tried Jiko last year, I wasn't overly impressed....

Coronodo is beautiful!! I think you'll enjoy you're stay.. This may sound lazy but I liked that each section has it's own bus stop, so you didn't have to hike to the main entrance everytime you wanted to go somewhere....

If you want to eat at Be Our Guest MAKE A RESERVATION ASAP...

I also have a recommendation -- Hoop Dee Do....It's just so much fun! And I littel different then yoru trypical Disny Dining adventure.... Smile

Enjoy!

Thank you so much for all the tips everyone!

The reason I want Le Cellier so bad is it has 1 credit for lunch....which is soon to be a thing of the past. All those other signature experiences are 2 credits, and I hoard DDP credits like it's my job.

I am going to keep checking every day!

When I am after a ADR I check several times a day. Especially 7 am when the new new ressies are available for the day. I have seen Le Cellier ressie go fast. I have always made several then canceled the ones I did not want. I have played with it to see how long it takes for them to go. Once I cancel them, it usually takes about 3 to 5 mins for them to show in the system and I check them until it is gone. That is usually about 10 mins. Sometimes longer sometimes less. Ok I have no life and a lot of time on my hands. Point being people cancel all the time. Maybe they found something else they thought they would prefer, park change, vacation canceled. Just keep trying awesome

What day are you looking for lunch?

I am obsessive that way. I love looking for and hunting down dinner ressies. If you can find one that works better for you Versaci I can cancel mine, but you definitely have a confirmed ressie. I am still working on Be our guest for someone else.
