New Credit Card Holds

Can anyone who has been to WDW in the past couple months (or one of our TAs) tell me how the new credit card holds are working? What happens if you only have a debit card? Is there an option for guests paying with cash or a Disney Gift Card?

We're headed down on Friday and I'll let you know. We always have a CC on file and do charge to our magicband.

From what I've read, it's only an issue if you want to charge items to your band.

From my understanding, if you are staying at Disney hotel and you want to room charge, Disney will initially hold $100. If you pass $100, then you get another hold on your account. I am pretty sure it is to make sure that people have money in their account before spending money. My friend used to work front desk at Disney and said that people spent too much money on things and couldn't pay for it at the end of their vacation, so they had to return items before checking out.

I always charge to my room and pay the charges off with gift cards every couple of days. I didn't notice anything different.

This is what I usually do. Did they have you give them $100 in gift cards to start with? I just want to make sure that the folks at home still have access to the money in my debit account. My fear is that they will put a hold on that when I intend on paying cash. Or maybe I'll just pay for everything straight away on gift cards and take the charging feature off of our MagicBands.

Yes, I'm super curious about this too. We normally charge to the Magic Band and then go down every couple of days to pay off the balance with gift cards. Hoping we're still able to do this, otherwise we'll just have to carry the gift cards with us and forgo the Magic Band charges.

Sounds like I need to be doing research for a "How to pay with cash or gift cards" article.

I haven't heard of this new policy. What is it exactly? We just put a credit card and charge the card. How will that affect us?

From what I understand they now take an advance hold on your card of $100. If you exceed that $100 they put an additional $100 hold and so on.

No. I'm sure they put the hold on the card I had on file.

I was able to pay my charges with gift cards last month.

awesome Perfect! Did they have to reverse charges they already put to your card? I wasn't sure how that would work under the new policy.

If you want charging privileges and have a credit card on file, Disney will hold $100 when you check in. If you spend more than $100, disney will hold the $100 plus what you have spent over that.

They will automatically charge your card on the 5th day or when you check out. We checked in on Saturday and they charged my visa today. We didn't charge more than the $100, so that's all they ever held. Today they released the first $100 hold, charged my card the $44 I charged to the band, and then added another $100 hold.

Hope that makes sense. mickey

That is the clearest explanation I have seen of this! Thank you! So as long as I pay off the balance before day 5, it will only be a hold put on my card, correct?

You're welcome!

Based on my understanding and experience, yes that is correct.
